Tried to get from here towards Carmarthenshire following the Brecon Road.It took us quite long, so it might be better to try the southern route.
Anyway, caught a lift to Brecon in 15mins

Got offered 2 lifts to Newport within 25 minutes, bit of space by the junction for cars to pull in.―Anonymous

Looks like a good spot, with a lot of space for the cars to stop; we had to wait there for 3 h though for a ride to a gas station along M5. (10.2014)―Ewelinalucy

Good place to go direction London. Hard shoulder just behind roundabout give a drivers plenty space to stop.―Anonymous

Good spot for rides to Cardiff, hard with direct ones but more efficient than the nearby roundabout.―Anonymous

Horrendous place to hitch from. Don't let them drop you here if you have any choice in the matter! The Coldra interchange can be fast, with really limited stopping places, and half of the drivers are already confused and intimidated by the weird new double-roundabout road layout. If you have to go from here, probably best to stand near the lights and hope someone takes pity on you. You could be in for a wait. Maybe also try going from Ringland Way (pink road to the south) but don't count on it - we had no luck there. Or if you're going West along the M4 (to Cardiff or further) maybe hitch into the centre of Newport and walk out to the Tredegar Park Roundabout (junction 28) where you can get M4 or A48 traffic. It's better than here.―Anonymous

Bus stop just after the roundabout, dead easy to hitch to Cardiff from here. I waited less than 5 minutes.―Anonymous

Bus stop just before the roundabout, direction Cardiff. After the roundabout the traffic can go there either with the highway or with a national road A48. We tried this option for around 20 minutes and, not being able to catch anything (low visibility, high speed), decided to use the national road, where we had more luck.―Anonymous

Waited here 90 minutes at 2pm on a Friday; lots of traffic, but couldn't even get a 15 minute ride down to Newport. Decided to get the train from nearby Pontypool & New Inn station to Newport, but thence found it difficult to get out of that city going East. However as a stance it is fairly good; you are visible to those at the traffic lights who can also pull in to the service station/McD complex.―Anonymous

Not really a good spot but there's enough space on the low sidewalk for a car to stop.―jojo

don't know if I was lucky, but I got a lift all the way to near Swindon (could've gone to Heathrow!).they've got plenty of time to size you up coming out of the petrol station but put Bristol or M4 to cast the biggest net if you're going that way.
I tried once using this spot for heading north, which is much much harder to do

nice big layby. traffic relatively sparse and not really friendly, but good enough for getting to Newport―raff8ty
