All right to go to Birmingham, somewhat harder to go towards London, but as in this country everything revolves around that city, you'll get there all right. I was standing in the entrance area to the restaurant bit and they tried to kick me out... just before I got lucky, finally.

Good spot to go northbound.
Someone took me from there to Manchester.
I had extraordinary luck there, got picked up literally the moment I walked out of the station.

Exit road for A5 West. Drivers can see you and the road is wide. Light traffic.

Old 1960s service usually avoided by M6 users . can be very quiet after the morning

It's an alright spot with space. Most cars do go to Bham though so you'll have to be lucky to find one that takes you north. Only got a short ride from there but it was enough to take me further away from Birmingham.

I ended up here multiple times while hitching to stoke-on-trent (about half an hour south on the motorway so NOT an uncommon place for drivers to pass.)
I'd always get a lift eventually but it would take ages, an hour or two, and I'm a lone young woman so most people will wait longer.

I was quite lucky to find a ride which took me all the was to Lancaster. However it's a good spot with lots of space for cars to see you and then stop. Not very busy though. I was there on a Monday morning at about 10:30
