Cornwall services is here so a good spot to ask around. I stood at the turn onto the A30. The cold wind and sleet helped, the road is just wide enough for a car to pull onto the grass and not stop traffic. Not ideal though

Direction South: Best roundabout out of Newquay with a space for a car to pull aside; make sure to know where you reach though as the road won't be that good everywhere for hitching

Direction South (Penzance): Safe spot, good visibility and possibility for cars to stop safely, you can stand in the grass verge

A little walk up from the main roundabout you will find a hardsholder which lasts about 30 meters cars can be travelling fast but good for heading north

Great for traffic going to the A30.
Cars will have to pull into the grass though

Lots of traffic. Not much space to stop. Lucky the Cornish are bloody lovely people

Asked the petrol station if they minded if I hitch hiked out the front. One of them offered me a lift if I waited until they finished work! Otherwise I think it would have been a bit more tricky.
