I rated it as good because there is space for a car to pull in and the police stopped to talk to me but said they had no problem at all with me hitchhiking there at the on ramp. It still will take some time however since you are still in the city ceter to find someone who trusts you.
I blogged about my journey to New Orleans [Hitchhiking Blog](http://www.hobospirit.com/hitchhiking-chicago-new-orleans)

The spot is great, high visibility, massive shoulder --- big enough for a semi which is what eventually happened. Trucker took me all the way to Troy, just past St. Louis, blasting 80s and 90s country all the way and singing along. The AC in his cab didn't work and it was blistering out but when the rain started falling in central MO we just kept the windows wide open and let it wash us clean

Trucker from Chechnya took me a few hours north. Said he liked trucking for the first few months but now he's seen it all and it's just boring. Used to teach and tutor math back in Russia but had to leave last year. Nice guy, he smoked Parliaments and listened to grunge.
