Dropped here by a local CS.He told me all his previous hitchhikers got a ride from there on I81.
Great location, but no one stopped, except a policeman.
He told me I wasn't allowed to hitchhike here, but when I said I checked the law and I was fine, he ended up acknowledging his mistake and let me keep going, only asking me to be cautious.
Tried the Shell gas station too, but almost no traffic and clerks not nice.
Got a ride from a local, thanks to a "fun" sign

Got dropped the day before, close to nighttime.Tried to get a ride to keep heading South but couldn't get anyone, only people going North or locals.
At the Pilot gas station, they would let me ask for rides outside, but when I tried to set up a sign inside while having a snack, I got ask rudely to take it off. At AC&T, They threatened to call the cops.
Most people I ask for rides were very nice tho.
End up spending the night in the woods.
In the morning, a local got me breakfast at McDonald's.
Finally got a ride with a sign on the ramp from a North Carolina man who was looking to tow his car back home. We spent the day together finding a way to do it and he ended up dropping me at a friend's house in VA.

There's a truck stop. I wanted to go north-east to D.C. (Nov '14) All truck drivers seemed to go south. But there were many of them. You can try on the Interstate entry as well (got chased away but State Police and Sheriff though). Good luck!―Anonymous

Ride from a guy in a pickup truck with a dog named Jolene. Brought us out past Harrisonburg then turned around.―Mossythemuse

Pretty quiet spot considering the truck stop. Got a ride all the way to PA from an off-duty cop.―Mossythemuse
