Kind of a tricky spot.
There is no sidewalk, but you can see all the potential drivers coming in a panoptic way, allowing you to put your thumb up only when needed.
Scarce traffic northbound.

Got a ride from a Batman fan, on his way home after work. He offered to do a quick detour t drop me in Buellton to keep going instead of CA-1

Agreeing with LostFrench, not a good spot. Cars are acceleration after the light and going too fast for this on-ramp. After 45, highway patrol showed up and ask me to hitch at the lights bc this location was too dangerous (no ID check).

Finally got a ride from two sisters on their way to running errands in Isla Vista. A first time for them, fun ride.

Carpinteria seems like a spot filled with good people.
Stopped at a donut shop for breakfast, they offered me my order and someone gave me $10.

Weird place to hitch at first, but actually the shoulder is big enough and drivers see you early enough and drive slow due to road shape.

Got a ride from Luis on his way to visit his family. Sweet Mexican man, he gave me $10 at the end of the ride.

You can stop at the Seal Sanctuary viewpoint for a quick break.

DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE TO BE DROPPED FAR FROM AN INTERSTATE IN LA AREA

I did this, took me more than 2 hours of buses to get back to an on-ramp.

Not much traffic there, but okay spot.
Played it with a sign assessing I'm a foreigner.

Adam gave me a ride all across the city and even further. We stopped at his place, offered me some shrooms.
He had a work mission up in the valley but offered to drop me afterward on the coast where I would keep going on my journey.

Made a new friend.

Looked liked a good spot with great shoulder, but no one would stop, a nightmare. Probably due to the location inside the city.

Finally accepted a first ride after such a long waiting to go to an on-ramp who seemed to have more potential.

I had the worst time trying to hitch from here. It was mostly local traffic and no one seemed at all interested in stopping. Waited over four hours before deciding to head back to Santa Barbara and try near the university.

Going north. A bit tricky to hitch as there isn't a sidewalk, making this spot illegal. Still, I've seen, picked-up, and got a lift here in relatively good time. I have a feeling it's a dependable place.

This place and the one above are pretty bad. Not much room for cars to see you, not much room for them to pull over. We waited about 1.5 hours then got super lucky with someone who took us all the way to Santa Cruz, but it seems like a bad place to be stuck. Not much traffic going north.

Many people passing but not stopping, took just under two hours to get a ride to Ventura.

About a mile walk from a bus stop, but entirely legal as this is where the highway ends and full visibility from all cars going North.

Seems like a good spot : visibility speed and place but I got nothing in an 1h30.
