No point aiming at the traffic coming from the highway, plenty of people stopping at the stop when coming from Castroville.Mt driver was a young Mexican studying Diesel engineering, very enthusiastic about my travels and supportive.
Offered to buy me some snacks at the gas station.

Long waiting time, but many support waving signs.Got a ride from someone who passed me a first time.

As said in the previous review, astonishing waiting time for the famous PCH and such great conditions to hitch there. As I was waiting, locals told me they would give a ride the next day to Big Sur if I was still there.
Fortunately, Josiah stopped and picked me up, even if his wife "would kill him" for that. Instant bond, we had a great time, between talking photography, travels and edible plants.
Spent the night at Sand Dollar where Josiah picked me up again the next morning to keep going North and making scenic stops along the way.

Got a ride almost immediately after walking to this spot. I get the feeling this would be a common theme here.―Mikeraglass

Unfortunatelly I waited here more than 2 hours for a drive to Santa Cruz and I was not offered neither with shorter rides. My driver eventually told me that people living in Carmel are very rich people, so that can be the reason that they don't care about hitchhikers.

CA 1 Northbound. This place has good traffic albeit many are not the type to pick up hitchers. I stood right next to the sign and took no longer than 20 minutes.―Anonymous

Southbound there is enough space for cars to pull over safely on the paved road. Just past the the traffic the road is very wide for 100 meters. I was dropped off here and got a ride down hwy 1 to big sur in 8 minutes. There is a bus stop at the intersection Rio rd and Cabrillo hwy so I assume you can get a bus there from Monterey.―Anonymous

The spot seems to be perfect for the direction to north. There is enough space for drivers to stop and also they can see you in advance.―Anonymous

The spot seems perfect, but I was waiting for over 2 hours and nobody would stop. Maybe I was out of luck. I went to the airport blvd ramp and got picked after 40 mins.―Anonymous
