Very good spot for hitching with a sign in the direction of Czechia, got a ride to Brno within 10 minutes. Lots of cars with Slovak number plates but some with Czech plates too. The spot is after a crossroad, so cars don't go too fast, and they can stop at the bus station that is following afterwards. Make sure your sign is big enough since the street is very wide. Also make sure to apply sunscreen on sunny days, there is no shade whatsoever

stood on the grassy shady wooded area on the side just after the toll booths. got a ride from the second car that passed all the way to paris. may have been luck, but most traffic is slow and there is a good place to stop, and this spot gets all traffic going on the A20 from toulouse. i recommend a big sign as it is wide toll booth and you may miss cars on the far side.

police checkpoint on the eastern exit to kyzylorda. guys wearing balaclavas and aks in the midday heat, really quite dense. loaded us into the police van, checked our passports, called seemingly every possible ministry in kazakhstan to make sure there's nothing they can arrest us for. refused to allow us to hitch, eventually haggled them down to giving us 20 minutes, after which they would "get very, very angry" if we don't leave. fair amount of truck traffic, maybe one every two or three minutes. if you're solo, you should be fine. if there's more than one of you, your only bets are kamaz or regular cars (which are exceedingly rare). got a hitch on the 18th minute from a great zhezkazgan miner. the road to zhez is much better than the locals and the internet will tell you, half of it is even concreted over. the last few hundred kilometres are basically offroad, but make for great fun. if you don't speak russian, you will have a harder time with the police, but a pretty easy time with drivers. vast majority of traffic is either driving like 50kms to a gravel plant or turning left onto a building site.

We tried the evening before on the bus stop and and the spot right before the road goes to the high way to Zilina with the no pedestrians sign without success. Next day we tried from the bus stop for 25min with no luck then we decided that one of us should stand on the left side of the road as that's the lane ppl have to take going to Zilina and got a ride after 5 min.

Most cars were leaving the motorway to go to the industrial district, but after 25 minutes I got picked up by two Serbian guys around 30 driving directly to Bratislava. Apparently, the road on the other side of town going to Reyðarfjörður is the main way to continue on the ringroad. I moved there and was picked up within 20 minutes.

On paper, this is a great spot, with an enormous amount of traffic. For some reason, though, I didn’t have much luck here. This may have been because I was trying to get to Avignon, which probably wasn’t a very common destination from here. WHAT A LUCK! We got to the parking spot through a hole in a fence (no other way around), got hastled by police and then got a sandwich at the Viva. Its open till midnight and we headed out of there at 11 pm. Thought we were going to sleep somewhere around till morning, fortunately, my friend thumbed a car for fun right when we got out of the gas station and they took us right to our city! Great spot for the ride out of Vienna, its walkable distance to get there, if youre adventurous :)
