We were trying to get a ride to get into A3, which later connects to A1 (we are going to Köln). We decided to try this spot since was quite close from our accommodation, but no luck, only 1 car stopped to tell us that we better go to Port de la Chapelle, as here we wouldn’t find a ride. There’s not many space for a car to stop, as is after a round point and drivers are more worried about the traffic lights around.
I started hitchhiking on the road right after the exit of the gas station. As soon as I put the backpack down and the thumb out, somebody called me from the gas station to offer me a ride.
It was a Saturday and there is very little traffic in this city. One man who just finished his job at the airport stopped for us but had to go east unfortunately.
He and another driver told us to stand on the other side of the road but google maps said the onramp in the east would be the route to go West. Anyway after that 2nd driver we decided to move closer to the onramp more west on foot (1 hour walk) and try there.
The first person I asked was going to Erfurt and took me all the way to Bad Hersfeld. It was evening so there wasn't much traffic, maybe that's also why the traffic was more long distance. I think the deserted vibe of the gas station made people take pity on me which greatly helped me haha.
Yeah exactly what the other comment said. I walked 30mins to this spot from the highway and it was worth it. The next gas station was small but it is the last one in a long time so many people going towards Giessen stop there apparently.
I got dropped off here by accident, made some mistake with my gps. I wanted to go in the direction of Giessen, which is unlikely from that stop. But even cars going on the A3 towards Cologne didn't stop for me. There wasn't a lot of traffic in the early evening, it was mainly just truckers getting ready for the night and staring at me.
It's not fantastic, but it's fairly easy to stop and people go slowly. Many city people who aren't going long distances. But they smile and wave kindly. I wanted to go north and had A5 on my sign. In the 20 minutes I was standing there 4 people stopped who were all going south on the A5. In the end I took a ride just to get out of the city and onto a A5 highway entrance.
Great Spot, as a couple we didnt even wait 2 minutes and a nice guy picked us up directly to Thessaloniki and even drove us to the Center. Just be careful to Not stand in the way of Cars. We used a sign.
Great Spot, a lot of traffic in direction of greece. Recommend by the locals. We were there as a couple and got a ride to Kulata (Border). And we Had a sign with Sandanski
Better for east than west but a good place to wait for a long haul ride. Headed to Spain, got dropped here around 17 ended up spending the night. There is a food court area with a McDs and other food. 24 hour shop with charging area and showers. Folks at the shop are kind and showed me a place with cushioned benches where I could sleep for the night. Servo for East is better than for west. Lots of traffic south as well. Good place to get stuck. Started again at 6 had a ride to Spain by 730.
Время указано по Казахстану. Пытался долго понимать машину с казахскими номерами. Там рядом с точкой есть парковка на которой останавливаются, как я понимаю, в ожидании документов. Несколько водителей готовы были меня подобрать и отвезти до Алматы на этой остановке, но документов у них не было. Поэтому я продолжил автостопить. Проезжала много грузовиков и машин, мало кто останавливался. Много машин полных, грузовики в большинстве своём имеют одно пассажирское место.
Предполагаю что отсюда автостопит гораздо удобнее чем от жаркента, потому что большинство грузовиков едут в Алматы. Это единственная комфортная точка, сразу после границы, для автостопа направление Алматы.
В указанной точке спрашивал полицейских, они сказали билет можно купить только в терминале на вокзале. Цена на момент написания 90 юаней до жаркента, 180 до Алматы.
После вокзала вернулся к ним и сказал, что нет денег на билет и могу ли я подсесть к проезжающей мимо машине хотя бы для пересечения границы до Нур-жолы. Они отправили в направлении указанном у точки там, где заезжают машины автобусы. Там Я обратился к полицейским с такой же просьбой. Они поговорили с водителем автобуса и посадили меня бесплатно. Когда получил штамп Казахстана, водитель посадил меня и высадил уже со стороны границы Казахстана , а сам поехал в Алматы.
Heading towards Bauska. I put my thumb out just behind the bus stop and one minibus stopped but wasn't going to Bauska. However, within 10 mins, a Ukrainian person came up to me from the supermarket and asked where I was going and went to Bauska even though it was out of their way!
Trying to get a ride into Riga late at night. Super long walk so I put my thumb out even with super little traffic. A few cars later and someone brings me closer to the centre. Probably very lucky.
Heading towards Riga. Great place where even trucks stop although traffic was quite minimal. Keep an eye out ahead of you on the Latvian side as I missed a truck which stopped there since it was quite far ahead. Still got a ride with the second truck driver who stopped there to the edge of Riga (he was headed to Lithuania).
Great spot, got a ride with an Estonian going close to the Latvian border within 10 minutes. Cars drive fast but lots of traffic. A bit weird to walk to due to construction but if you catch a bus here it would be a lot easier.
I can recommend going by this road along the coast if you aim for the south(Essaouira). It's a little slower then the highway probably, but it is a beatiful landscape and you get picked up pretty quickly by locals only. People took me for just a few kilometers everytime, but i think it's way more fun and it really was worth it. Also if your late on time or tired, you can get taxis from every bigger city for 30dihram maximum. Try it!!
Didnt work out for me, in summer, mostly family cars go through here. A lot of cars though, so probably could catch a ride if i stood there for little bit longer. Ended up going by bus to Marrakesh (60dihrams only!!)
Took us a long time. A lot of traffic but most had their car full of stuff or people so they couldn't take us to the border or beyond.
We were very lucky that a couple could take us all the way to Frankfurt, there we needed to go south and they were going east
One of us was asking at the gas station without luck, I was standing before the bend, looking for cars coming from the traffic lights. A nice lady stopped for us but said that I wasn't very visible, so be mindful of the trees and stand a bit closer to the traffic lights so cars can spot you better.
Stand there with a sign. Good spot, for picked up to Fredericia, one of the biggest crossings in Denmark and an amazing spot . Good if youre going to Kopenhagen.

Good spot for local travelling. There is a red light were all drivers towards Gettorf/Eckernförde/Schleswig need to spot. Asked around with a sign and got many offers super quickly
A lot o cars driving around, most of them are locals but because of near speedway it is quite easy to cach one. There is a place for car to stop safely.
Very little traffic but at least everyone is going in Białystok direction. Be aware that this is the last gas station on expressway before Białystok so it's better to try getting ride at least over there
Not sure why other reviews are so positive, couldn’t figure out where they’d been hitching from as it’s a busy road onto a motorway and it’s pretty much impossible to walk onto the slip road so you’re just stuck asking people at a traffic lights. Try the eastern slip road instead, I found it much more chill and managed to get a lift from there
Would recommend this spot over the other slip road onto the M6 from Carlisle, in the north, I went there first and it’s near impossible to get on without walking down a busy road. I went here after and it’s much more chill, just walk straight onto the slip road, took me a while to get a lift but eventually two lads took me all the way to Edinburgh so just hold tight and eventually you’ll get a lift
Great place for getting across the bridge to Denmark. Lots of Danish, German and Dutch cars. We asked around at the gas station and were quickly offered a ride to Copenhagen by a Czech couple.
A very good spot, from San Biagio Micca its less than 10 minutes walk. You need to cross the parking space and go through the revolving door which were open and then you can stay at the other side of the gas station
People are very friendly in general and want to pick up. Be right before the bus stop so they can stop there. A very kind hearted person picked us up:)
Hard to access, had to climb over a fence. Other than that the spot is really good, cars have space to stop and can see you quite well. Also good for longer hitches, we got one directly to Clermont Ferrand.
If u stand before the spot right where the barriers start the cars will see u early enough and will be able to stop. They go pretty fast so this is important. There is not much better spots before Hollabrunn, even though this one is not ideal and u need to be careful. 2 cars stopped in 20 minutes. We (2 dudes) held sign CZ.
Amazing spot direction Czechia. Got a ride in less than 5 minutes half way to Znojmo. Probably the best spot for this direction, cars dont go too fast, u can get there by taking the U6 and then by a bus or walk few minutes. the place to stop is big enough and it is blocked of so there are no cars driving through there. U can stand in front of the spot behind the barriers so that the cars see u early enough.
Lots of traffic, close to gas station and a robins, so washroom and food available. Lots of room for cars to pull out. Honestly took a bit longer than I expected to get a ride considering how many cars were passings, but then got a straight shot ride to Dartmouth
Stood here trying to make my way to Halifax - Intersection with people heading onto the highway, sort of awkward place for someone to pull over but there’s a hotel on the hill so cars could pull up there
Took bus to Martray (for 1,60 e) from Caen and it was worthy. Just waitad at the and before the parking for caravan with sign paris ans within 30 minits I go a ride straight to Champs Elysees (Paris)
Perfect spot to get out of Kobuleti. Just in front of the supermarket there is enough space to stop and a lot of shade. But be ready to say no to a lot of marshutkas.
Cars have a lot of room to stop and visibility is good. There is a bus stop to hide in if weather starts being funny. We tried for Oslo and one sweet old lady took us to Tanumshede.
Alot of Traffic and enough space to stop but, because Kobuleti is very long, there is mostly inner city traffic. We just took the Bus nr. 1 to the end of the city for 0.5 Lari.
