In daytime on weekdays people stop their cars and offer you rides here. People signal for hitchhiking but it's a crazy good spot for Gush Etzion junction (and possibly further to Hebron, Beit Shemesh, Beit Guvrin, Kiryat Gat, etc etc). Smaller roads but incredibly nice locals.

Can be reach for 1.5e with a bus from Montpellier-tramway number 1 terminal(Mosson)! Very cute place for Activ or passive hitchhiking. You definitely should get a sign because people will go in north or south direction. Many people go to Paris or opposite to Spain, Montpellier, Bézier... There's places for car to stop. You can go by foot in the village and the surroundings even tho your on the highway.
Definitely a great spot. It's also very wild if you get stuck by night you can probably put your tent without real risk except boar, deer or Hedgehog.

For some reason I walked in here (2017) in night from the gas station few km in direction to the Chambery.
Maybe because it was night and not much traffic so expecting to have more directly on pay tools.
(There is a bridge above train track from the gas, in bad condition atm, after that is a field, back then with horses (possibly a private property).
Rest is the normal road.
After arriving near the entry to this pay tools, realized there is a fence all over the place.
The under passage was closed by gate and with some cameras.
So had to climb over the fence somehow, hard to do with a heavy backpack, but got in.
Fence was bend a bit, so not the first one possibly to do it.)
Slept there till the morning on parking lot and got lift to Grenoble.

Nowadays there is partially completed highway so traffic is less heavy - I would suggest going for roundabout to catch more traffic.

Ended up here (9/2016) and there was no traffic at all on the highway. Don't know why, but even minutes passed by with no car/truck. Slept on parking lot as it was completely empty.
Next day noticed some BlaBlaCar going thru so used this to get me out of this 'in nowhere' spot.
Hope a decade later it's OK.
The gas in opposite direction have nice rating so take mine with a grain of salt.

2016 - behind traffic lights, there is bus stop so it's safe to stop for a car.
Yet it was at the time of many refugees taking the route thru the Balkan area + a lots of beggars on the traffic lights. So perhaps because of this it wasn't easy. Got ride by Turkish driver, the first and only one offered on this spot, direct to border crossing with MK.

In the middle of the trip, he found out he had forgotten his medicine, so he went back home to pick it up. On way back he took us by old route as it's nicer to pass by (and not boring to ride the machine thru more wildly shaped road) and the sun was going down, making the scenery.

Plenty of annoying taxi drivers, some of them being rude.
So moved ourselves further away and after being offered few short rides not to Skopje, we got a lift almost to the city.
By a sound system traveling for some party outside of Skopje.
The road around Skopje was destroyed by flash flood just a few days a go - military vehicles could be seen plowing the way out of mud.

Great spot for heading to Antalya. Theres traffic lights so the cars on the main road stop and can see you, and the road from the North joins here too and they can see you. There's a space for cars to stop about 15 metres on, and all the cars are going slow here.

Took a long time to attract any drivers. The sun was setting and getting cold. After what felt like many hours, a nice Chilean man stopped and gave me a ride to Santiago.The border between Argentina and Chile was extremely strict and they searched every crevice of my bag and questioned me thoroughly as an American. Overall, decent experience. I would just recommend starting earlier if you plan to go this route because when the sun sets behind the mountains, it does get very cold. The guys who picked me up also said that he had some friends who tried to hitchhike in southern Chile and it took them a couple days, according to him and that I was lucky to find a ride

On the way, a few km after the border, the engine fan belt snapped.
The driver solved it by removing a stocking from her leg and using it as a temporary fix.
Fortunately, the engine did not overheat and we arrived safely at the location.

Not the best spot, not much traffic - as there are three roads that siphon cars out of the city for highway before this place.
There is a 200 long line with some old bridge-like structure above, perhaps for future bus stop, with crosswalk in middle, safe place to stop for the driver.
