We waited at the other spot 100 meters down for about 2 hours on a Monday morning and when some Russian guy got picked up at this spot after waiting for about 45 min. We went here and one had a sign while the other one asked and both got a ride at the same time after abt 30 min.―Test12345

Not too much traffic and lots of full cars. Got lucky in the end with a ride that almost couldn't fit us. With patience you can get a ride all the way to Budapest or beyond even.―Kelob

It's a good place to stop at the bus stop. A lot of cars with Austrian license plates drive by, but they're going pretty fast. I also tried waiting at the gas station for half an hour, but relatively few Austrians stop there.―Anonymous

Tried standing with a sign, but there’s not much place to stop safely, so I gave up. After I tried asking around, but be careful, on Fridays and Saturdays people are not keen to go West to Balaton - the traffic is apparently very bad. One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Budapest to Arad in Romania (successful).A very good spot. Legal coz it not a highway yet. Others already described this spot. I only add that place is a bit uphill so lorry drivers may not be keen on stopping here. A 100 meters closer to the center there is a flat and long exit from the petrol station, but it's after a curve so visibility is limited. The choice is yours.
No shade, cars coming in waves due to the traffic lights a bit before.
After 15 minutes I got a ride to a petrol station 27 kms along the highway, from where quickly I got another lift.
The couple even forced a chocolate bar on me 😊
