The Ondrejovova bus stop is separated from "car lanes" by a bus lane, so I did what the other review suggested - I was thumbing with a sign right after the bus stop so that people could stop at the lane entering the gas station. It worked liked a charm and after 20 minutes I got a ride all the way to Zilina.

Waited here for 2 hours (1pm to 3pm) with a sign saying "Zilina" but noone stopped. There is A LOT of traffic. Big downsides are that 1) the cars are going pretty fast and 2) pulling over might seem a bit dodgy - there is a wide lane separated with a continuous line (emergency lane?), so it's probably not exactly legal to stop there, but I had seen plenty of people do it regardless.

I then moved to a bus stop at Gagarinova street, which worked much better.

Bus stop, a lot of traffic going at rather low speeds, plenty of people headed for Bratislava (many cars with Slovak plates). A spot doesn't get much better than that!

The gas station also serves as a highway exit into the local industrial district and these cars generate most of the traffic, there aren't many cars actually going to Bratislava. That being said, this is most likely still the best place to get out of Vienna eastward.

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Brno to Budapest (successful).
It looks like a really good place. At the end of the petrol station. Enough space for cars and lorries to stop. No shade (luckly it was a bit windy that day).
I got dropped here by a previous driver a bit before midday and after 25 minutes a Serbian lorry driver heading home picked me up and dropped on the outskirts of Budapest.
Due to road works on the highway it took us over 3,5 hours to reach the outskirts of Budapest. It looks the construction will last for quite some time.

One male 40+, with a sigh "BRATISLAVA", one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Brno to Budapest (successful).
It looks like a good place. The entrance to the pertol station, with loads of space (enough for 2-3 lorries). After the traffic lights, so people drive slowly, and can see you easily.
There are also downsides. It's before the big junction, and cars go everywhere, to Prage, Viena, Bratislava, Ostrava (and Poland) and also locally. So, I'd say that a sign is necessary here. The traffic is constant, so you'll not have time to rest your arm. In the morning no shade.
After 25 minutes a woman stopped, but she was going only locally (she didn't see my sigh).
After one hour I started loosing my hope a bit. I gave myself 0,5 h more before moving to another spot. 5 minuts before the deadline a man stopped and took me to Bratislava. He said that he saw my sign, so I recommend having one here.
The driver was kind enough to drop me at a petrol station south of Bratislava, where quickly I got a ride to Budapest.

You need to be patient or have luck because this spot is very bad.

Honestly shocked that others say that this spot is shit for Budapest and good for Vienna — I had exactly the opposite experience hitchhiking to Austria! Three hours waiting with a sign for ‘Graz’ (I was on my way to Zagreb), and the only offer in that direction that I got was to a town just over the border. Yet three people stopped to ask if going to Budapest would help, and two more people stopped to apologize that they were going to Budapest!

I had banked on people going to Vienna making the connection that Vienna is on the way to Graz, but as hour three closed I made a sign for Vienna, and it was STILL another hour. There is no shade at the on-ramp and it gets hot. The traffic is a steady trickle but honestly not that much. I would try another spot next time, no question.

Lots of space in the surrounding area to camp unseen, though, if this spot does serve you. I walked here from the end of the tram line at night to cross the highway with less traffic and start early (not that the early start helped!), and was at least well rested for the frustration.

Excellent spot where the cars can see you from far and have the place to stop even tho they are coming fast. We had a sign "Vienna" with a French flag. The driver drove us next to the St Etienne Cathedral.

I was here very early in the moring on a weekday so most of cars were stopping for coffee or something before going gor work in Bratislava. So asked trucks around and got a ride to Brno. Also there was a lot of trucks going to Bratislava so maybe its better to go to gas station further down the highway?

Got droped at this border control because local lady said that i only can cross this one on foot? Was crossing the border and asked a car ahead with slovakian plates if they can pick me up and he agreed do got taken straight to Bratislava and even he invited to stay at his apartment for the night and drove me to gas station in the morning. Very nice guy who also hitchhiked in his youth.

Some traffic but hard to stop. Most people just ignored me, even less trucks. Maybe good towards Wien but not hr

Not so frequent gas station, but last in Slovakia in a way to Austria/Hungary. We (couple) spent some time here and asking people directly and also with sign to Vienna/Graz, but we didn’t manage it to Graz that day.

Quite good place, not so many cars, but few of them go to Bratislava. Some cars are a bit full because of workers groups. Anyway, you can find your ride to south of Slovakia from here.
