Not an ideal spot to flag down cars turning left from the overpass, not enough space on ramp. I flagged down one of the cars at the south end of the red light. This will be your best bet here, the next onramp west is superior, I only tried this spot due to construction.

If you walk on 20m around the corner, you can stand at the beginning of the slip road where there is a wide hard shoulder where cars can stop safely. Another advantage is that you also get the traffic turning onto the slip road from the other direction of route de crissier. I waited 20mins and got a lift to the first service station at bavois. The only fly in the ointment is that by walking that extra 20m, you will be technically hitching illegally as it is past the motorway sign which stands 'just under the bridge'.

The only place with some shade along this stretch of road out of Castelsardo. I turned down one lift to Badesi thinking I could do better but when I had to wait another couple of hours for another lift which was also only going as far as Badesi, I took it.

Trying to get to Aire de Vémars, found a car driving to Cologne on a early Saturday morning.
Accessible from metro station Montreuil Hôpital, walk to Rue de la Chasse the closest you can get to the gas station entrance. There's a pretty low wall you can climb over and maybe even a pathway, but I didn't see it in the dark. Be extra careful when walking the last 100 meters over the gas station entrance.

In daytime on weekdays people stop their cars and offer you rides here. People signal for hitchhiking but it's a crazy good spot for Gush Etzion junction (and possibly further to Hebron, Beit Shemesh, Beit Guvrin, Kiryat Gat, etc etc). Smaller roads but incredibly nice locals.

Not much traffic off season. Mostly Turkish cars with 34 area code. Many trucks with 16.
I needed to go to Sofia so i tried to go east with sign Bulgaria and west with Sign Thessaloniki. Sometimes both while standing in the middle and turning for cars/trucks.
Going to Turkey should be possible since i got offered rides by truck drivers.
The police were really chill only checked my Passport and told me they have to kick me out if someone reports me and chatted with me about traveling while doing their checks. The checkpoint and police presence probably made the drivers not stop for me.

I bet its a good spot during the season but for me it didnt really work out.
There was a police control so i first climbed the fence and tried on the highway and on ramp but had no luck. Later the checkpoint was gone so i went opposite the hardware store( Inside is a free water fountain right at the entrance straight on).
Later an employee took me on his delivery run and i unloaded the loads with him to drive me to the toll after.

This toll is good spot to go to Khujand. Personally it took quite long for me but in the end you will find someone. Lot of taxis. There are restaurants around but it is quite cold place to wait.

Horrible spot. Offramp is tiny and too often used for anyone to stop, all traffic is intercity or nearby villages, people not to keen to stop to take you even to next gas station or toll booth. Police station nearby, and there is no amenities, you cannot even walk up and down the road safely. Don't go, not worth it. Lighting at night also shabby.

Can be reach for 1.5e with a bus from Montpellier-tramway number 1 terminal(Mosson)! Very cute place for Activ or passive hitchhiking. You definitely should get a sign because people will go in north or south direction. Many people go to Paris or opposite to Spain, Montpellier, Bézier... There's places for car to stop. You can go by foot in the village and the surroundings even tho your on the highway.
Definitely a great spot. It's also very wild if you get stuck by night you can probably put your tent without real risk except boar, deer or Hedgehog.

For some reason I walked in here (2017) in night from the gas station few km in direction to the Chambery.
Maybe because it was night and not much traffic so expecting to have more directly on pay tools.
(There is a bridge above train track from the gas, in bad condition atm, after that is a field, back then with horses (possibly a private property).
Rest is the normal road.
After arriving near the entry to this pay tools, realized there is a fence all over the place.
The under passage was closed by gate and with some cameras.
So had to climb over the fence somehow, hard to do with a heavy backpack, but got in.
