good spot, a good few cars going to the rest station, but i got moved on by cops after like 20 minutes here. you could talk to drivers and get a lift fairly easily i guess.―Leslie

here is a good spot but on a saturday in summer there were many families and cars with no space. there was also a vaction driving ban for truckers so i couldnt ask them for rides either. i tried thumbing from the end of the station but i eventually got a lift talking to some hippie looking people going to graz. a lot of the drivers who had no space were going to vienna or elsewhere in austria.―Leslie

A bit so so since there were roadworks, but cars aren't going fast and a car can pull over, took the first ride to a gas station 10km away.―Anonymous

not so bad, kind of a game of chance with the traffic lights. waited here with a sign that said salzburg / linz and finally a guy picked me up and drive me just to the closest gas station on the a9 where i then caught a ride with a truck to wels. not the worst, not the best. was thinking of trying the gas station about a kilometer closer to graz, could be better there to ask around.―mp

Didn't work well for me. Not many cars, maybe a little more towards Salzburg than direction Graz.In the end, after almost an hour, someone picked me up just to drop me off at the exit "Ried", a few minutes down the A9, spot in the middle of nowhere. Avoid!

That's a rest area with a gas station, restaurant, maybe even a hotel. The name is Voralpenkreuz. Lots of trucks, but also normal cars. Good spot to change an auto if you are going from Salzburg direction Graz. Also lots of people going North on A8, and to Linz.―Anonymous

Bad experience. First used sign that said "München", then "Salzburg", then "Linz" out of desperation. Waited in total about 3h 1/2. I spent the night in the gas station, and in the morning a young worker there offered to take me to his home town nearby, where I finally bought a train ticket. I hate hitchiking in Austria.―Radu122

on some (paper) maps it looks like this resting area is on A1 in direction Salzburg. You can go to Salzburg from here but most cars are going North to Passau. It's on the "wrong" highway.―Fraughtwithsounds

Probably a good spot for all directions (Vienna, Graz, Passau) except towards Salzburg (or so it seemed to me). I stood in front of the restaurant and asked people directly. Hardly any cars at the gas station. Took me 1.5 hours to get away from here towards Salzburg. Bad luck or bad spot? Can't really tell...―Tomtom

Not a lot of traffic to Vienna.. I arrived at 8 o clock on a friday and the whole gasstation/resataurant area was almost completely deserted. I got a lucky ride after an hour of seeing maybe only 10 cars, not recommended.―Anonymous

For the size of this place there was surprisingly little traffic. I waited about 45 minutes with someone going the opposite direction. He got his ride to Salzburg and I got mine to Vienna.―Anonymous
