We tried to hitchhike to Istanbul (2 men). Overall, the location is average/poor – few drivers were going to Istanbul, most were heading towards Burgas, and the Turks heading to Istanbul were reluctant to pick up additional passengers. First, we tried hitchhiking at a gas station, then we tried to hitchhike directly on the highway. This seemed like a better method. Ultimately, we managed to hitchhike to a gas station on the A1, just before the junction for the Istanbul and Burgas roads.―Anonymous

We tried to hitchhike to Istanbul. Overall, the location seemed quite good, but we had significant difficulties – few drivers were heading to Istanbul; most were heading towards Burgas, and the Turks heading to Istanbul were reluctant to pick up additional passengers. Eventually, we managed to hitchhike to a gas station outside Plovdiv.―Anonymous

Got dropped here in the early morning and very quickly got taken by a truck driver to Plovdiv. Seems to be a good spot.―Anonymous

Perfect place for HH to Sofia. It's near to semaphore and Gas station. There is a old railway (don't work right now) and cars drive slow because of this.―Anonymous

The best place in our opinion! Were hitchhiking in a couple (a guy and a girl), with a sign written in Bulgarian [София моля те :) - Sofia, please :) ] and literally stopped a car in 1 minute. Stand on the little corner after the semaphore so that not only cars that go straight to highway could see you, but also the ones turning to the left.―Martinio

after crossing the river, you'll see soon a petrol sign at 500m. I waited 1h 15 min until very nice bulgarians drove to Sofia―Anonymous

Hitched in front of this petrol station (used no sign) and had no problem to get a lift to the highway. From there it took me only minutes to get another ride to Sofia (btw: hitchhiking directly ON the highway is common in Bulgaria - no worries)―Tomtom

Direction Svilengrad, easy enough to get a ride past Plovdiv (30 minutes or so), the same would apply for Burgas.―Maxim1110

Direction Sofia. Hitchhiking directly ON the highway was no problem for me at all. Seems to be the way to do in Bulgaria...―Tomtom

we hitch hike from here to the east and north to Hisar. Better hike near the red sign board (after the flyover) for better attention. We stood before that for 1 hour still got nothing and moved to the signboard and waited 15 minutes for a lift―Anonymous

Waited here for more than 3hours on unforgiving sun. Finally got a lift directly to Byala. There is a Shell gasstation and some umbrellas. But drivers passing by in high speed. Quality of the spot depends on day and hour. Sunday afternoon is not very good. ;-)―Anonymous

Good place to hitchhike towards Sofia and other tows to the West of Plovdiv. A lot of drivers prefer this exit when going to Sofia―Anonymous
