Better to wait for a ride going all the way to Devin/Nastan (if going north) or Krichim (if going south.) There's very few settlements inbetween these two towns, lots of curvy roads, and not really good places for cars to pull over. I was staying with my thumb up on small green area right before place where ramp connects to highway (so with my right hand I could flag cars from highway and from my left hand I could flag cars on ramp). This place looked like shit but even so somebody stopped after just 20 minutes (he was going on ramp so maybe it's better to just flag cars from it but idk) I got a quite far ride in direction of Turkish border.―Autostopeks

I agree that this is a nice place. In opposition to what map shows you it's not yet a highway so no problem about legal issues plus it's easily reachable by public transport from the city center. Bus number 185 has stop right before this junction and you only need to walk past it which isn't hard aldo also not to pleasant and that's it―Autostopeks

We were hitchhiking as a couple an made a sign in Cyrillic with Sofia. Most drivers that go from Plowdiw to Sofia take that road to get to the highway. Took us 15 min to get a ride. Cars slow down due to the roundabout and can stop in the bus lane afterwards―Clemimens

We tried to hitchhike to Istanbul (2 men). Overall, the location is average/poor – few drivers were going to Istanbul, most were heading towards Burgas, and the Turks heading to Istanbul were reluctant to pick up additional passengers. First, we tried hitchhiking at a gas station, then we tried to hitchhike directly on the highway. This seemed like a better method. Ultimately, we managed to hitchhike to a gas station on the A1, just before the junction for the Istanbul and Burgas roads.―Moonhans
