Once stood at the ramp rather than the gas station itself, it went very quickly.―Anonymous

Got lift directly to Prague city center for train. In the meantime plenty of offers, mainly local, but also Olomouc.
No shade. Highway police have this possibly as spot to hang out. There were two of them.
Yet drivers stopping with offers.
Walked there from nearby resting area, doable, in ~ 30 min.

Got lift to Brno, by a Polish couple, returning from Germany.(Two offers for Brno/Mikulovice in the meantime.)
No shade, there is small exit as utility road from the spot, not marked on map, great for drivers to stop there.
At the time not much traffic really, and only ~1/10 going for the highway exit.
I was wondering, why drivers seems so confused all the time.
And it's because of complexity of this exit and how the navigation is displaying it.
Many drivers taking wrong exit - instead for highway, they leave for Kollnbrunn.
There is another exit for highway so they don't need to return, it's forgiving, just adds a few more minutes to the route.
Not for you, loosing the valuable traffic.
So I would suggest, depending on traffic, try before roundabout on the exit road from the gas/parking lot, some 100m from this spot I guess, catching rather all traffic.
(Two drivers stopping with an offer confirmed me their confusion, one even circled the spot 2 times before exited right.)
Got there late at night walking from Wolkersdorf train station, (ticket cost is ~7€ from Praternsten).
Headlamp come handy.
Took me ~2hrs, with heavy backpack, from Prater to the spot.
It's thru woods but they have maintained network of patch roads for fencing and logging the wood out.
Go out of village, at the end before motocross/Rochuskapelle in the twist, there is pawed utility road. Walk it to the end and go straight to the forest, making it by the first triangle shaped path, ending nearby the highway again.
On OSM maps there is line alongside that road - that is the fence, so you can't go deeper to forest (it's to the left side after hitting the fence).
From there walk by the fence up to cell tower mast (there is no road visible on map, but as they build the fence, they have road for it, side by side), from here is a marked road again on map.
You'll pass by an overpass for wild animals above the highway.
A lots of wild boar (dozens), fortunately all I've met were on the other side of fence.
Yet entire area ground having marks from their activity so count on that they are with you all the time.
The gas station have cut thru the fence at the beginning, or you can walk up to second roundabout and there is open gate for cars.
Arrived late at night, so slept in forest near the first roundabout, area is freshly logged out so no bushes but few well placed trees for a hammock.

No gas station, really low traffic.Walked to the gas station Tank Ono Popovice, some ~ 30 min. walk. (Got many offers there, worth it.)
There is under passage below the highway to the other side, go over field, take another under pass back to this direction and from the road there is 20m trail to the gas station.

previous ride dropped us here, not ideal, traffic is too fast, you have to go around and ask people.our destination was vienna, but writing a sign for mikulov got us a ride with a very nice local guy quickly and from there it’s super easy to get to vienna, took us less than 5min

lots of traffic, unfortunately we had to wait a lot longer than anticipated. talked with an elderly couple with vienna plate two minutes after reaching the spot but they didn’t want to take us with them.after that just waited at the exit, there’s an „official hitchhiking spot“ sticker
had two signs, vienna and brno, got picked up by two workers on their way to brno. seems way easier than going straight to vienna

This place sucks, we got a ride to brno after a full day and 2 nights sleep. First we ( 2 people) tried getting to prague or germany but no one from crech republic wanted to talk much or did not stop. Later we gave up on that and just tried to get anywhere but there was only people who could take us to vienna. There was a cool local bus driver that gave me some snacks and a drink. It is BIZAR how long this took felt like a fever dream. There is a nice camping spot at the water tank and easy to walk underneath the toilet gate at the macdonalds, fuck that genocidal company anyway. Wish you the best of luck this direction is kinda rough.―Anonymous

Strolled around a bit to find a good spot, then just stood at the gas station exit to the motorway with a Praha sign for 30 minutes. Very few cars going through the gas station, but in my opinion still the best bet going West from Brno since all cars go in the direction of Prague. Eventually got picked up by an extremely nice Slovakian/Ukrainian couple and got dropped off exactly where I wanted to go in Prague. About reaching the gas station: like the hitchhiker before me, I drove to the station with the train (two stops, S4/S41), then went along the street to the bridge under the motorway. Climbed up the steep hill next to the bridge and walked 500 m alongside the motorway (outside the railing!!) to the gas station. Not the best spot to reach, but very doable and a lot easier than I imagined after reading the other comments―Mangoontheroad

Finding a car at this border checkpoint was not fun. You can easily cross the border on foot, even though it is a car-only checkpoint, just approach the booth, show them your passport, and you're set. But finding a car willing to take me anywhere was a complete pain in the ass, most of the drivers were not willing to stop because of the police presence. If they stop for the shops/toilets, they are usually packed with stuff, especially during the holiday season. But the Serbian cops are awesome. They did not bother me at all, and when they had a shift change (7 pm Serbian time), one of them asked me about my goal (he saw that I was stuck there for 5 hours) and stopped a car for me going all the way to Czechia.Maybe soliciting a ride in the queue between the Bulgarian and Serbian checkpoints would be easier, but you can't really do that once you enter Serbia.

I would not really recommend this spot. it is not too busy and most people are driving short distance. i recommend asking around, we eventually got a ride to Bratislava.―Filipnatripu

Going towards Prague. Very good spot to catch trucks or cars going in the direction of Prague or further. A little bit annoying to reach though. I went up the slope next to the highways bridge to the west of the service station and walked on the outside of the barrier next to the highway for about 500 metres. Got a ride with a Moldovan truck driver who was going all the way to Ireland!―Arcturus

This is not really a good spot as most people are just coming to Brno. To go to Slovakia/Austria it might be better to head for gas stations on respective roads. After around 20 minutes of asking around a guy offered to take us all the way to Szombathely (Hungary).―dundee

We asked around on the gas station and only asked around 5 drivers before two men offered to take us to Brno. We might have been lucky and I can't really judge whether this is a good spot or not.―dundee

This spot isn't really best because of the nearby highway, so you can only stop cars coming from the gas station. Still, it's probably the best spot you can choose in the area. We wanted to head down toward Vienna/Graz, but an older French couple stopped on their way to Salzburg.―evasiskova

Waste of time. Dont even try. Cars are driving so fast, you are hitchiking basically on highway.―evasiskova
