A lot of cars are heading towards Nice with slow enough speed. Enough space to stop a car or small vans.―Prdelozrout

Good place to go to Nice. A lot of people are putting gas here. I don't know for further, probably during the day. At 5 there was only people going out of work.―Kweps

Biggest parking for trucks I've ever seen, maybe 200-300 of them. Every single one was going to France or Spain so it was s perfect spot to catch someone that direction. But we were going further into ItalyThere was mostly traffic from trucks but also a few cars going through. We've been waiting there for 2 hours asking around and caught a 300km ride somewhere around 23:00 by a guy that drove a Porsche there for some rich kids from Monaco
For me the best spot in that neighborhood to go hop on the highway

Not so busy, we tried to ask people for Nice / Marseille direction. A Swiss older couple on Tesla took us before Nice, above Monaco. From there it was easier because we were finally in France. Good luck.―TwoThumbsTravel

I got incredibly lucky as a Romanian truck driver picked me up (the BEST people) and I had a sign to Genova, but ended up going further as I wanna get to San Marino. Hard to get into this spot as i walked on the road, and police came and waved a finger no, but i ignored them and thankfully got a lift quickly after―SunnySupertramp

Ok so I guess I was lucky to have a couple of kind italians taking me to Ventimiglia in like 10mn of waiting. BUT I think, if it wasn't them, I could wait a lot. There's almost no room to stop, it's just after the border so there are some cops & carabinieri and it puts a negative atmosephere for hitchhiking which reflects on people attitude. Also a lot of fancy cars and tourism which won't likely be the kind of person taking you for a ride (it's valid for the whole coast of Liguria IMO). Grazie Marco e Sofia :)―cavalierrustique

Honestly I've been lucky to find someone in 10mn for Monaco. It's a very tiny place with very few cars and if unlucky I'm sure you can wait hours―cavalierrustique

Two guys with sign to Monaco. There’s bus stop where car can stop so pretty good place. Maybe also good for getting to Italy from Nice.―Slocrowth

I'm backdating this story because I initially missed it when doing my trip write-up.This is the only service station servicing Monaco, for that, it seems quite promising! It's a bit of a quest to get to though, first, a bus will take you most of the way out of Beausoleil; after which you need to walk up a motorway service road and hop a fence. Not too good, not too bad. It'll do.
The sun was getting ready to set when we started hitching, our sign read “Italia” but the evening traffic wasn't looking promising. We weren't too bothered, however, because the views were fantastic, and it looked like a wonderful place to camp!
Right as we turned round to walk into the woods for the night, we heard a horn honking behind us! Five older Brits on a jolly outing to Italy! They gave us a very entertaining lift to Alassio, where we proceeded to find a place to spend the night.
If hitching from here, I'd strongly recommend not accepting anything that isn't to at least Sanremo. The Italian police don't like hitchhikers at the best of times, let alone those that get stuck on a border toll booth with no pedestrian access.
