We ( Boy & Gril ) waited with another hitchhiker couple! They got a ride to the next gas station after 40mins. We were so lucky to find an elderly couple who speak english, that could take us all the way to Bordeaux :DWe definitely had to wait so long because not many pass by early in the morning! 2/3pm is the best time here.
Also it may be better to get a ride before the gas station in france as the gas prices are higher - still some people go to eat and do a stop here.
Just go around as ask 😁🌱

Going to Italy or Spain (via Irun)A lot of cars and trucks go by. For cars ask to go to Pau, if you go to Italy.

Around 3 minutes wait on a Saturday morning (10:00).Not the safest spot (still safe though), but very effective!
As there already was a hh waiting to be picked up, I waited a bit further to not confuse the drivers with the different signs.
She was picked up after 3 minutes.
A guy directly came and posted himself on her spot... and was taken after 2 minutes. Then it was my turn :-)
I had a big back pack with me and 3 card boards. One with a "next gas station symbol", and the other 2 with Donostia/San Sebastian and Burgos.
I was dropped at the toll just before the Spanish custom. I had to wait a long time there to continue my journey... You might prefer to be dropped at the gas station 2 km further.
