DIRECTION BOURGES ORLEANS OR TOULOUSE BY A20This is the entrance of the A20 there isn't national roads to go to the north easily, so this is a goof one.
Traffic : Low, 1 car every 2 minutes
Speed : low, 30km'h
Waiting : the first car...a lucky day :)

Forgot to add that there is a service station on the northbound route, either just before or just after Chateauroux. I got a lift after ten minutes. Not guaranteed, but definitely a far better option that the aforementioned junction.―Harvestmouse

Northbound: The worst place from which I have EVER tried to hitch. Got dropped here twice. Once I was picked up and taken to another junction a few kms up. Other time I waited 3 hours, then gave up and hitched back South (I live near Limoges). It's soul-destroying.―Harvestmouse

Even if we waited for a little longer than expected (arrou 45 min), we found a direct lift southwards to Dordogne village where we were actually going (few hundred km away). Many cars, enouth space to stop. In case you need to camp, there is enouth space for that. Thank you for an author!!:)―Laurynas.notreal

Waited here for hours for a lift north on the A20. Quite a lot of slow traffic (maybe 1-5 cars per minute maybe), mainly leaving McDonald's, but noone stopped.Slept in the field to the north near the autoroute, then the same problem the next morning.
In the end I hitched back to Chateauroux and got a train.

Started walking back to Chateauroux with my sign held out after a disastrous attempt at hitching from the industrial estate, and got a lift half way. Bonus.Traffic is quite fast here though.

Apres mon échec dans le zone industriel au nord, je marchais au Chateauroux pour prendre le train, et j'ai trouvé un stop sur cet route.
Mes le circulation est assez vite.

I thought there would be a lot of traffic from Chateauroux to the A20 down this road.I was very wrong.
Eventually someone picked me up who wasn't leaving town but "knew a better spot".

I still don't like talking about Chateauroux.

Apres un longtemps, un mec m'a pris un stop pour un autre endroit ou il m'a dit etait meilleur.
Il a eu tort aussi, mdr (lit le point rouge plus nord)

Pour prendre l'A20 en direction de Limoges ou Paris. Un panneau est préférable. Il est également possible d'aller vers LeBlanc/poitiers. Pas une super place.―Anonymous
