It's actually a good spot, but either way it took almost two hours until someone stopped.Good thing there is a supermarket to get some food, and a free water dispenser, and its very comfortable to wait there.
We haven't seen anything of the city centre of Donostia-San Sebastián but a lot of people told us that is really worth it to spend some time there.

We started at 12 o'clock because it took time to get there and waited like two hours asking around the people who stopped by the gas station.To get to the direction of San Sebastian, you have to wait at the gas station below/south the highway.
Bus service to get there was kind of problematical because we had to change the bus and the second bus just left the bus station like 15 min earlier so we had to take a diffrent connection. But i guess it was bad luck.

I was waiting for a while to go south, but I think it would be easier to head north. Lots of trucks, McDonald's, showers and a hotel - big truck stop. Had a sign for Bordeaux but got a ride to Spain. I stood at the roundabout and it didn't work (little space to stop), but when I went to the end of the truck stop parking lot I got my ride in 15 min.―zhokha

I literally was walking to find a spot with a little bit of space with my sign for Toulouse under the overpass towards France and as soon as I put up my sign, the second car stopped. Turns out they were an Italian couple going to Turin but they dropped me off in Toulouse.―Arcturus

At 2 am two very tired guys handed us the key to their vehicle (after asking if I have a license). Got a ride to Bordeaux.Asked everyone in all the language we know
Reaching the place at night was not easy at all, we walked through the industrial zone with the truck then had to reach the truck rest area through a thin path seemingly drawn by a previous hitchhiker, climbed to the bridge and walked on the side of the highway entrance.

I started to ask around in English and after around 10min the workers at the gas station made it their personal business to find me a ride and asked the drivers in Spanish, which worked great. They found me a ride to Irun after 15min.―Anonymous

Cars can stop at the entrance of the gas station but a lot of local trafic. We had a sign "Bordeaux", a girl took us to Biarritz but it was not very convenient because exchanger there is not a good spot for hitchhiking―Anonymous

Great spot to go north. We asked directly and the first people we talked to (french couple in a camping-car) took us and brought us after the border to Saint Jean de Luz. We were two with a dog.―Anonymous

The other spot isn’t so good now because the majority of people in the vicinity are Portuguese cars that come to the gas station for cheaper fuel. Asked around and got incredibly lucky, a ride all the way to Irun with a French/Portuguese man. Don’t know what the alternative would be, maybe at the border crossing works better―Lmaoyz

Best spot on my trip yet. Getting there was a bit rough but managable having to go through the Woods and over highway crossing car bridge from the industrial zone. Consider hitching a ride there instead of the bus. But once there i talked to 2 different people. And the second were some portuguese Guys that took me all the way to toulouse at 19:30!
