Bus station just after the roundabout, with plenty of space for cars to pull over. Personally, I think I made the mistake of putting up my “Lyon” sign too early. When I tried without a sign, a car heading to Montpellier stopped for me within 10 minutes.―Veless

On paper, this is a great spot, with an enormous amount of traffic. For some reason, though, I didn’t have much luck here. This may have been because I was trying to get to Avignon, which probably wasn’t a very common destination from here. In the end, I changed my sign to “n'importe où” (anywhere), and within 5 minutes I got a ride to a nearby seaside town.―Veless

I was making a sign at the roundabout for Lyon when I saw another hitchhiker appear out of nowhere on the otherside also with a sign for Lyon. As I was walking to him, a car stopped just then and I got a ride with the lovely woman and her child to Bollène via the local roads. Shoutout Vladimir.―Arcturus

Not much space to pull over but its France so people pull over anywhere for hitchhikers. Had a sign for Montpellier. Waited 15 minutes and even got the middle finger by a driver but it didn't matter because I got a ride to a bit past Montpellier with a couple and their pet cat in a van going home just northeast of Montpellier.―Arcturus

Best way to leave montpellier direction north / east. Take the train at Saint Roch direction Nimes, it's only 7 min and no control, end at "Baillargues" and then walk for 10min. You can easly have a lift, did it several times (takes between 15 and 45min) to the closest station ("ambrussum sud") just 15min away and then you're on the highway to paradise ;)―erbadagram

Hard spot to go north direction Valence/Lyon. Should be quite easy to go to Nimes or direction Marsaille. I couldn't manage for my life to get anyone who was going past Nimes in my direction. Christmas days, lots of full cars and pouring rain. I gave up and got a ride into the city of Montpellier (which was easy).―friki
