Very good spot to get out of Oberhausen onto A3 in the direction of Arnhem. There's a traffic light you can stand next to with a sign. Mine was super improvised and it still worked in like 5 minutes. Not super far but to Hünxe which I knew to be a good spot to continue. Was pretty late, so I might have been lucky with Feierabend traffic―Anonymous

Hünxe. Sometimes you get a ride to Ohligers Heide in 30 minutes, sometimes you wait 3 hours before accepting a ride into the HH'ers hell that is Ruhrpot. Today was the latter. Don't be like me. It's (at least) Ohligers Heide or nothing.―Anonymous

Stop here if you want to cross the Ruhrgebiet, and try to get a direct ride across. On the A3 that means at least to Köln. I got a ride there after some 20 minutes, but the guy eventually took me all the way to Wiesbaden after his scheduled work meeting close to Köln had been cancelled.―Maxim1110
