If you come from the railway station of stradella, theres a roadmap in the station, where you can see the way to the gas station. Once you reach the end of the city, dont follow the main road that is only for cars and turns towards the gas station but turn left onto a road that is closed with red barriers. The railroad crossing is closed as well but if you are careful and slip through the barrier you will reach the gas station from behind.

Relatively big service area which in fact turns it very difficult to harness. Autogrill and petrol station are separated, meaning you cannot attack clients of both. At the highway entrance the cars are already going fast so they are not likely to stop there. The cardboard approach will definitely not work here, in my experience the best way is to camp in front of the autogrill and ask people returning to their cars, interleaved with a quick round at the truck parking lot behind.

Also, be careful with the highway police. They told me that it was forbidden to hitchhike on the highway, in vain I was trying to explain we were eventually OFF the highway... They didn't fine me though, but as a headsup, if you see them coming hide anything that would give you away.

Good stop to go from Pavia to Milano. It's just after the roundabout. You have to stand on the pavement though as there is no bus stop.

I was asking drivers toward Piacenza e bologna, got friendly reactions and in 45min a ride to a petrol station 40min away. Nice

The spot is great. Both sides of the highway are connected together, so you can change the direction just by walking over the highway.
Easy to go from here to Milano. My destination was Abbiategrasso and I also got direct ride to this place from here.

Not the best spot to go to Milano. A lot of cars go to Florence direction.

The spot is good but there are lots of people going to Nicea. It's really the best spot to get a ride to Italy or to the east because there aren't really any other spots that are closer to the border.
Do not settle for a ride to Nicea or Monaco if you want to get to Italy because there arent any more stations on the highway later on until Italy.
We didn't see much succes on the gas station itself but we got a ride to Milan with a trucker from the parking. There are lots of trucks going far.
The service is very nice and you can power your phones and other devices in many places in the station. There is also a lot of space with tables and chairs on the outside to cook and eat.
If u dont manage to get a ride until the sunset, there is a good place to sleep behind the station by the revolving door in the bushes. It's hidden from the bigger road but seen from the smaller road on which there are almost no cars. To get there you have to get around an old fence. No need for a tent because there are almost no mosquitos. The station closes at 2 am and opens at 3am so when we asked they told us we can sleep on the couch or somewhere in the inside of a station but u would have to leave at 2am and wait an hour and u can come back at 3am.
