I stood at the end of the busstop, giving cars space to pull over in the bus lane. Good spot because just after traffic lights so cars got time to see you and not going too fast yet. Was there quite early on Sunday morning and not much traffic which is why I waited so long.―hank

Hitched from this spot probably 10+ times with signs like “Arthur pass, west coast, west”. People see you from the lights and there is space for them to pull over.―Thisspotsucks

Hitched here 10+ times, great spot to get anywhere south from Christchurch. Note that especially on weekdays people aren’t going much further than Ashburton. If you do get picked up by someone doing short distance, rakaia is amazing to hitch out of, as well as the end of ashburton (tinwald), which is significantly better for continuing south than the middle of town in my experience.―Thisspotsucks
