Created a sign for skopje on the flight and made sure to display it prominently on the flight. When I landed I walked to the road. Sadly there is nowhere to actually pull over, but cars where repeatedly happy to stop on in the middle of the road as theres very little traffic, its a small airport, and people are pretty chill and cool. I walked along this road towards the roundabout, thumbing cars that came, and I think the tenth car stopped and just said get in. No taxi approaches and the driver spoke perfect English and where cool travellers themselves. Had a lovely journey and arrived in skopje before the shuttle bus (which would have cost €4) had even left the airport. If you dont feel like hitching there is a shuttle bus for 199 den (about 4eur). But it leaves every two hours. The ATMS and money changers offer crap rates. Change money in the city.

I saw a few plates with KU and only talked to them while having a sign as well. Second person I asked took me.―Leonw

Good spot because a lot of traffic was at the start (5pm) but then dropped very fast (6pm). Was standing with a sign bulgaria/k.palanka. Maybe a bit far saying signs but there is no other place kinda to go there on that road. Also maybe i was not that lucky because i was trying kinda late in the evening. But eventually very nice truck driver who was paying a toll(stramge because all others had the autamic one) took me all the way to sofia.―kiausiniuvagis

Stood here for a ride for Kumanovo. A woman first stopped and asked where I was going and came back a few minutes later and took me to Kumanovo over the highway. Probably better to wait at the entrance of the Highway then here.―Suip

We had bad luck so we waited for 1h 50 mins before being picked up by a truck that took us just 10km to the border. There are many cars and trucks but for some reason they didn't stop this time, but I think this paytoll is a very good hh spot.―Chaba

Direction: northDay, time: Sunday ca. 07:00

Took bus from Skopje, then used "Serbia" sign. Toll attendants friendly. Waited ca. 25 minutes, then Macedonian truck stopped.
Practical note: I regretted having spent last MKDs in Skopje, as traffic was light and nearby gas station had coffee.

We were there about 10:00 am. But no many cars coming to petrol station. After 2-3 hours we found a car to the Serbian border. After we passed border by walking we tried to find a car towards Beograd.―Kralx15

At the end of summer it is possible to find a ride to probably anywhere in central europe from here, but you have to filter out the cars full of luggage and families and find the odd car with space. But I got a ride going to Bratislava from there no problem.―Rdoc101
