I waited 5 minutes and had already two cars stopping for me without a sign lol. One was going to Leskovac but I checked is best to stop at gas station before Nis. I took bus 70 to go there. This is basically a nice little hike of 20mn and fence was open to pass through. I am a 27M with moustache and nice hat, if it helps.

Low traffic gas station and cars are often full but almost all of them go to Serbia and to Belgrade. You can find a car that is not full. Ask around with Serbian words to be polite and don't use a board. I had actually made some old Serbian friends that wanted to help me find an empty car lol. Thanks Milica and Zora!

Bit long but I guess that’s what you get when thumbing in Serbia, got a ride to Vršac after an hour

It seems to be a pretty good place to hitchhiking in the direction of Budapest. There is a gas station, a large parking lot for which trucks and passenger cars stand. The station can be reached directly from the E60 road. We tried to catch transport from there to Budapest (from where we wanted to go further towards Belgrade) we were lucky and we came across a driver from Serbia who easily offered us a ride to Belgrade. In general, the traffic is quite high and a lot of locals and tourists. (There is also a Tesla charging station so maybe you can hitchhiking a Tesla)

A lot of Serbians cars going after the work (16-17:00) back home. A lot of traffic. I believe this is a good spot (especially for Serbia, where they don't usually take hitchhikers). You don't even need a sign.
True that you won't get far though.

Hated this spot. Just locals going nowhere. After 2,5h waiting and asking people, I decided to get to better spot. It was indeed much better. You can walk there (40mins), or you can ask some Serbians to give you 1 minute ride.
I don't recommend this place. Move away from here.

A good spot for Belgrade. I was sceptical at first bcs google maps was showing me a different faster route to Belgrade but a local guy told us this is the road people take. We got a sign to Belgrade and got picked up pretty fast. Its near a gas station so a lot of place to pull over

We were 2 guys. A lot of cars passing through, they are going slow so they can clearly see you. When we were there, it was the middle of July so must of the cars were families going home from vacation so cars were full. After like 2 hours we declined 1 ride to Gevgelija. After another 2 hours we finally got a ride and it was all the way to Belgrade, we had a sign Serbia. Before we also tried with sign Skopje.

Good spot with good space for the cars to stop to go in direction of belgrad. There is no shadow, and the cars do see you from very far away

So, I got dropped right in front of this bridge. I would say that the best tactic here is to cross border on feet and have a sign of where you want to go(In my case it was Beograd) and approach every car, as the line on the border gets pretty long.

In my case no one agreed, so I stood with the sign right after the border control and was feeling desperate because it was already dark, when the guys from the border saved me. They told me they were just hesitating to take me right before the border control, but after it they pick me up and took all the way to Belgrade. Total legends. One of them, named Igor even hosted me for a night at his place! Very good experience

Got picked up instantly, with a sign saying Belegrad. Was lucky, but this is a great spot too

Not too bad spot, with enough visibility and place for a car to stop after the off ramp. Got a ride to a petrol station 30km away and after the toll.

avia gas station, not to busy with cars(no trucks), asking people works best for me

Direction: North-East, Pancevo, Timisoara
The bus-stop is a good place for cars to pull over and offers a roof when it rains ;) And besides all the traffic in your direction comes by here..

I waited 1 hour with a sigh Zagreb without any success, then I changed it to Novi Sad and a car took me after 30 minutes. A lot of local traffic, quite difficult to stop for the cars that drive on the left lane (bus stop on the right lane).

There is a pay toll somewhere here (cannot place it exactly on the map). It is about 5 minute ride from the last Avia gas station (which really sucks for hitching since most of the cars are from Belgrade).

At the paytoll there are local "hitchhikers" who just ask from the cars who stop for their ticket. Do the same. No need for thumbing (or even a sign). The police did not seem to mind people doing this. Took me about 45 minutes to figure this out. Then I got a ride easily.

Directions: Nis/Vranje, Skopje, Thessaloniki...
