There is a bus stop perfect for cars to stop if you want to hitchhike towards Lekeitio coming from San Sebastian. Decent amount of traffic as well.
Happy hitching

Good place for hitchhiking to Bilbao. Everybody is going there. Bad spot for hitchhiking to Vitoria.( It is better to go down from San Sebastian)

We went to Bilbo. There is a place where can cars stop. And there is a toilet and nice view. we waited about 20 minutes. It is not the best place but when you don´t want to go back through the city to autopista, you can try..

Good spot to go towards Zumaia or further West on the coast. You have to walk aside the road for a bit, not much space to get there but cars pay attention, and then there's a spot for cars to stop and they see you from far away. I barely had the time to raise my thumb that someone stopped to bring me to Zumaia and then continue further West

I was quiet lucky, I've got ride by couple from Germany, otherwise, I think, I would have to wait much longer. The couple told me that the bus stop is no really visible and they did not know were to stop when thy passed me tge first time. Luckily for me, they took a wrong path and passed by me for second time. This time they new they can stop at the bus station behind me.

Lots of people going Bilbao, we were trying to go south and eventually got a hitch to Burgos.

Waited for a while with lots of other hitch hikers but did eventually get a lift all the way to Spain. Very busy rest place and good for getting south into Europe.

Good for cars who go West in the coast road, and easy to stop with the gas station
To go the reverse direction there's also a bus stop just in front
A bit of walking from Zumaia to get there but it's easily accessible with a pedestrian path so very safe

Aralar gas station with extra electric vehicle charging. About a half of traffic going to nearby villages. The other half goes (in the order of magnitude) to Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz and San Sebastián. Good amount of hippies/surfers driving to beaches on the coast of Spain or France. Got a ride directly to Zarautz after talking to people at the gas station & bar for approximately 35 mins. There is also a decent bar/restaurant to have a snack while waiting for a ride.

I've been picked up after 10 minutes by two guys going to San Sebastian. The traffic was not much dense compare to the oposite direction.

Within 5 minutes staff came to ask us to leave, but we got lucky as someone pulled over at the same time who drove us to Burgos. Wouldn't risk it again!
