Great spot, lots of traffic, easy to approach people filling up at the gas station. A lot of cars go further ahead to the shopping though so if you are two people splitting up is an advantage. Getting off here is probably the best option even if you lift can take you all the way to lausanne.

From outside the trainstation, walk right, at the roundabout right to the underpass, then keep straight on until you reach the main road "Bernstrasse". Turn left. On the right side you see a gas station, right before the highway to Bern begins.

Easy to get there from the south/east of Biel. Just follow the main road "BrÃ¼ggstrasse/Portstrasse). The spot is a roundabout, cars see you from far away and can stop there. A lot of local traffic, not too many cars.. But still quite good to go to Bern or at least to the service station "Grauholz" shortly before Bern.

Cross the town center walking towards the Jura (mountain-chain). There you find a main road with a lot of traffic. Turn right and follow this street, you can already try to stop cars here. There are bus stops (#1, #2) where cars have space to stop. After about 2km the highway A5 going to ZÃ¼rich and Basel starts.

Take Bus 2 to Renferstrasse. Walk straight for 2 minutes. Stand just by the ramp onto the highway. I never waited more than 15min and hitchhiked there many times.

a possible place to reach BASEL, BIEL/BIENNE or ZUERICH. the traffic comming from the center of solothurn is slow and drivers have to stop at a traffic light. there is no pedestrian way but enough (safe) space to walk over the on- and off-ramp to this spot. i was never hitchhiking from there but believe it must be a safe & quick place to catch a ride. it should not take you longer than 7 to 10 minutes walking from the old town to reach this spot.

a very good place to travel to SOLOTHURN and maybe even further to BASEL or ZUERICH. you can easily reach this spot with bus number 2 (get off at 'renferstrasse' or the ROLEX-works). there is a COOP-supermarket nearby too (walking distance: 5 minutes). it took me 15 minutes to get a ride to soluthurn (while the driver was continuing to 'zug' and could have taken me there as well).
