Do not try hitchhiking here as it's illegal to do so on the motorway. Cops came and told us we had to leave after half an hour. Go to the gas station.―Anonymous

[[Pease Pottage]] Service Station, good for both directions, North and South, as it is on a flyover.―Anonymous

Good spot for traffic going north or south bound. Got a truck to Dover in 10 mins!―Anonymous

Best spot to hitchhike out of Gatwick towards London probably since everyone coming out of the station this way has to stop. Got a ride north after 40 mins.―Anonymous

No hard shoulder, not much stopping space, probably best to walk along your chosen road for a mile.I came here for a 20 minute journey to the West, hitching without a sign and with a beard, thinking I would ride this rural idyll in an instant, but dumbly stood, sprayed with all the usual visages of negativity -(helpless patronising derision at the very concept, blunt affronted peerings of the low-intelligent, excusing gurnings communicating: 'I'm only going down the road that you want to go down fella, so I can't help ya see? otherwise I'd love to', wily grim-toothed grins indicating that: 'You something-for-nothing boys cannae fool me again, laddie', comic thumb-response gestures and the simple fragile drift to the furthest side of the road with an unaffected glance in the opposite direction) for 75 minutes until a ride going 5 minutes west decided to take me all the way. Another life for the Master (thankyou Master).

Two people stopped to ask where I was going but after only 10 minutes I got asked to move by the police because it’s not a good place for cars to stop, I moved to the entrance to mcdonalds/the petrol station and got a lift within 5 minutes―Anonymous

Two people stopped in less than 10 minutes, the first guy wasn't going in to London. No hassle with police, but maybe that's because it was so quick!―Anonymous
