Me and a friend waited only 15mins at around 7:30am and got a lift going to London. We stood just before the petrol station. It worked well as people are slowing down because of the lights and can pull in to the petrol station easily if they want to pick you up. Staff also let us use the toilet there.

Do not try hitchhiking here as it's illegal to do so on the motorway. Cops came and told us we had to leave after half an hour. Go to the gas station.

[[Pease Pottage]] Service Station, good for both directions, North and South, as it is on a flyover.

Good spot for traffic going north or south bound. Got a truck to Dover in 10 mins!

Best spot to hitchhike out of Gatwick towards London probably since everyone coming out of the station this way has to stop. Got a ride north after 40 mins.

Two people stopped to ask where I was going but after only 10 minutes I got asked to move by the police because it’s not a good place for cars to stop, I moved to the entrance to mcdonalds/the petrol station and got a lift within 5 minutes

Two people stopped in less than 10 minutes, the first guy wasn't going in to London. No hassle with police, but maybe that's because it was so quick!
