Main route from Inverness towards the south-east. Didn't go after the last roundabout since people are accelerating a lot at this point so after the bridge and the caravan parking lot was quite the good spot.

Decent place to hitch towards Fort William. Right at the exit from the roundabout so cars are going slow. The downside is that it is right before a bridge which seemed to make the drivers nervous and less willing to stop even though there is a little road before the bridge when they can pull over.

I think the traffic was above average due to Braemar Highland Games taking place on the previous day (I got picked up by tourists going to Inverness after attending the Games). Not sure if it's as good of a spot usually. There is a layby, so there is space to pull over.

Hitched many times from here to Fort William. Usually 5-10 minutes wait.

There's a pull-off on the highway here. Great spot to get South or East. Make sure your sign says which one though - mine said Edinburgh Please, and I got a ride within 15 minutes. Seen lots of hitchers at this spot and they always get picked up. Stand a bit before the spot where the road widens and people should have heaps of time to pull over.

Car arrives from the roundabout so usually not too fast, and there's a huge laybay for them to stop. Great for going north. I waited less than 10 minutes

Small lay-by here for going south towards Perth/Edinburgh. Good because traffic going from/towards Aberdeen is sorted out and cars are going a bit slower, bad because it's kinda in a bend, and because it's a pretty small lay-by. You'll be okay with a sign.

this is one of the spots where you really should have a sign.

Without a sign, this place is shite. That's because it's in a bend and small. Don't walk any further, though, there's dual-way highway for a very long time without any lay-bys.

A lot of through-traffic here is in the outside lane, as people are turning off to the hospital and Culloden. If you have trouble, walk about 2 miles up the hill to the next layby (ignoring the tiny bus stop part-way up), and try there: i've never waited more than half an hour up the hill

I gave it up after 2 hours of thumping up with a sign. Cars go pretty fast, better to hitch from differetn spot. not recommended.
