Lot of people going in Edinburgh's direction, plus you have a service station nearby.―Sterenn

Not sure is a very good point, but I was dropped off there and I got a lift to Glasgow in 5 minutes... maybe I was just lucky, as it doesn't look very easy for people to stop (unless you ask at the traffic light)―Anonymous

For going into Edinburgh, there is nowhere for cars to stop. Only option looks like bus stop, and anything but traffic for South Queensferry has to be in an outer lane so they are not going to have time to change lanes to get to bus stop. Maybe possible to hitchhike from roads leading to roundabout further up, but still not great, and there were roadworks making it harder when I was there recently.―River

The only services where I have ever had problem with the staff. They had a problem with me walking where cars could pass (although every driver who comes to pay does the same). After some negotiation we agreed I could ask drivers, as long as I stayed on the pedestrian lane in front of the shop. This can depend on what staff member is working at the time of course. It is the only services between Edinburgh and Glasgow, but within 20 minutes after being dropped off, I got a ride to a services close to Prestwick.―Anonymous

Just after the garage, just before the bus stop...Good place to get a lift to Glasgow or Stirling (and beyond) - you can hitch to traffic on the main road and traffic coming out of the petrol station too, and there's space for cars to stop in the bus stop/lane

A bit better than straight off the bridge - make sure you stand on the red-painted part of the road rather than the pavement so that cars can see you more easily, though it can get a bit wearying with the constant flow of traffic. Only had to wait here for a very long time once, every other time (20+) it's been fine. Get a lift at least as far as Kinross services!―Anonymous
