I used the layby/bus stop up the road, waiting for about 30 - 45 mins, i would say the layby is better than garage.

I stand either outside of the petrol station (the one with the Daleks on it), or just near the bus stop slightly further along the road when heading East. Usually get a lift within ten minutes.
