I had an easy time hitching along I-10 through LA, but was hassled by the cops on more than one occasion. They all thought it was illegal, but there is a loophole in their law which allows standing on the shoulder for solicitation, just not in the actual roadway. Know your rights, and they can't do anything. The rides came quick, I made it nearly to New Orleans in one day.―Anonymous
