We waited at the other spot 100 meters down for about 2 hours on a Monday morning and when some Russian guy got picked up at this spot after waiting for about 45 min. We went here and one had a sign while the other one asked and both got a ride at the same time after abt 30 min.

Started at 06:45 for no reason, was hardly any traffic that early. After around 08:00 it started to pick up and there was a lot of foreign number plates also, can probably find a ride far.

It's a good place to stop at the bus stop. A lot of cars with Austrian license plates drive by, but they're going pretty fast. I also tried waiting at the gas station for half an hour, but relatively few Austrians stop there.

Tried standing with a sign, but there’s not much place to stop safely, so I gave up. After I tried asking around, but be careful, on Fridays and Saturdays people are not keen to go West to Balaton - the traffic is apparently very bad. I got a bunch of locals to take me to a better gas station after asking and they were very nice.

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Budapest to Arad in Romania (successful).
A very good spot. At the very end of the petrol station there is little space, so I was waiting a bit closer, at the end of the last grass island, hitchhiking once with a right another time with a left hand. And sometimes with both, and then I looked like Jesus 😁
No shade, quite busy traffic, both cars and lorries. There is free internet, but the toilets are paid.
After 15 minutes a lorry took me to another petrol station 55 kms along the highway. There were some road works so it took as nearly 1,5 hours 🙄

A very good spot. Legal coz it not a highway yet. Others already described this spot. I only add that place is a bit uphill so lorry drivers may not be keen on stopping here. A 100 meters closer to the center there is a flat and long exit from the petrol station, but it's after a curve so visibility is limited. The choice is yours.
No shade, cars coming in waves due to the traffic lights a bit before.
After 15 minutes I got a ride to a petrol station 27 kms along the highway, from where quickly I got another lift.
The couple even forced a chocolate bar on me 😊

Pretty comfortable spot, you just have to wait:) I wrote out the sign BALATON. At summer lot of people going this way.
Yes, people go a little fast, but not far from here comes in a road where söme cars are coming from, so they a bit slower.
That was my first longer distance ride and i had a great experience. My driver was a translator in the parliament, he travels a lot, he was from upper-class finnancially, he never hitchhiked, has been in a lot of diff countries because of his work. Very nice person, we had a great conversation
