If you stand the other side from the traffic light, it is safe and you can even sit on the fence... :) Get there from tram 1 - Haluchères and then bus 85 - méditerranée or 77 - Adrienne Bolland and walk a few minutes. Otherwise walk from halucheres but it's a bit long.

very tricky spot. cars go fast, there's no obvious place to stand and for cars to stop. asking truck drivers might be more efficient if you're alone. it's still probably the best place around kaunas if you want to go to poland.

it's a decent spot. the main disadvantage is the fact that there is a crosswalk right before the bus stop, so you're a little bit less visible because of all the signs. on the other hand it's easier to hitch at night because there are street lights, so people see you from far. i hitched in the middle of the night, so that's probably why i waited for so long.

The parking lot is a barren wasteland for trucks only. The access road has a narrow side strip where cars can stop, but there's only industrial areas and tiny villages nearby, so if you travel on sunday like me, there are no cars at all. I tried standing behind the guard rail of the deceleration lane, but gave up after 2 hours and walked to the train station.

The other spot isn’t so good now because the majority of people in the vicinity are Portuguese cars that come to the gas station for cheaper fuel. Asked around and got incredibly lucky, a ride all the way to Irun with a French/Portuguese man. Don’t know what the alternative would be, maybe at the border crossing works better

Most cars going south - north are turning towards Modriča. A lot more cars going from North to south though I wanted to go to Brod, few cars but eventually got a truck going to Zagreb. There is enough space on the side of the road for cars and even trucks to stop :)

Had a sign for utrecht. After 40 minutes only 1 car stopped and it was a taxi asking if i could pay him with favors instead of money. I can only guess what that means cause i said no haha. But it is a good spot; plenty of cars and plenty of room for them to stop, with a tram stop next to you if things dont work out. Also was lucky with a big cardboard dumpster next to the spot. Good place to hitch a ride. You are on top of a hill which makes you stand out with the sky in the background and people can see you from very far away. Also, there is a parking spot beside the road for people to stop if you want to go west (I can't remember if there is one on the other side aswell). Avoid! Very deserted spot with not a lot of cars driving by, most of them being trucks. One guy stopped and offered to take me and sped off when he saw we were two people. Another guy claimed he was going in our direction but the route in his car showed the opposite direction. After 2 hours, we gave up and took public transport to Alsfeld.

All the traffic at this point is crossing the border, now that both Romania and Bulgaria are in Schengen, no border checks either, and the cars are going pretty slow and do stop to ask where you're going. Be aware that at the time of my crossing, the bridge was getting renovated, and only one way was open, might be difficult to cross on foot if you wanted to, and might make the waiting times longer. But you can walk up to people and ask to take you!
