About every 20 min. there would be somebody stopping. But all went towards Oldenburg or Osnabrück. We (2 guys) were trying to get to Lüneburg. No success…
Cars were coming pretty often but it doesn't seem to be a good spot for hitching.
Cars to Lüneburg probably rather go down the A7. Or maybe walking in the city and trying at the Bundesstraße B75 which also crosses the river Elbe and is pretty close would've been better?

It was raining and only every few minutes a car. So no success.

Saw a NL(Netherlands) plate and waited by their car until they came from the restroom. Friendly older couple going towards south of Netherlands. Probably one of the most used gas stations near Hamburg and super easy to get a ride. Some people a little grumpy

Friendly drivers, I was asking around, found an Italian (!) guy who drove me all the way to Hambourg! For me it worked pretty well!

Decent spot for getting North out of Hamburg. Probably would have been better with a sign.

Services were closed when I was there (and look like it could be permanent). Petrol station is open but most of the traffic was just going in to Hamburg. If you’re going for Denmark I had much better luck at Rastplatz Holmmoor on the other side of Hamburg

First car pulled over and took me to Hamburg. Obviously got very lucky but it’s a dedicated spot for hitchhiking so think you’re always going to get a ride.

waited for more than two hours on a monday morning, inscriptions on the nearby column are telling the stories of other waiting hitchhikers and my ride told me that she had to wait longer and longer on this spot during the last years, the circuit still seems to be the best option towards Berlin

After 1,5h we got two ride-offers simultaneously! A German family offered to take us all the way to Hamburg with the ferry.
Tip: have a walk around in the ferry and use that time to network and find your next ride if you hear the language of the next country you’re heading towards! We heard a few Dutch families (but their cars were full).

It worked very good.
We talked to some people and someone took us to Hamburg.
Even over us a place to sleep if we wanted which we gladly accepted.
It was a very nice experience!

Better for asking with a sign, thumbing is kinda hard

Very low traffic volumes, probably better to jump off at the bigger raststatte Aalbek half an hour before if you need to go past hamburg.

Many cars going. Not the best space to stop but ok.

Very nice spot. Just be sure to mind the traffic. I stood in the middle of the two lanes on the striped part.
