Everyone goes to Vienna!! (Saturday morning, two guys, sign Graz)We asked around, hitchhiked with a sign... About 20 cars would be willing during those 3 hrs to take us to Vienna.
So recommendation would be to take anything, or not come here in the first place if heading to Graz.
I was here before solo, and had a different experience (read below)

not a great spot to be dropped if you can avoid it. on a weekday in july there was mostly cars going to graz and south west austria. a few polish drivers going to croatia for holidays, as well as trucks staying the night. we hoped for a ride to slovenia but settled for a lift to klagenfurt where its easy to hitch to ljubljana.―Leslie

its best to stand a little bit further away from the on ramp just behind the first overhead bridge where theres a small space on the shoulder for a driver to pull in. mostly local cars but also a few Graz plates. people driving by were a bit stern but if you smile and wave theyll act a bit more friendly and you might convince someone to pull in who wouldnt have otherwise.―Leslie

service station. ask around for rides :). good spot to go to Vienna(7.6 Euro) Take bus 470 from Graz to Arnwiesen Abzw stop. Walk back about 200 meters and station is on right.

Very big station with huge traffic. Even though it is two direction station it was impossible for us to find a ride to Graz or anywhere further. All cars were heading Vienna, Germany and Poland and we didn't find any car heading opposite direction. So perfect place for going north and senseless for going south.―Burrito

Mostly, people drive to Italy from there. For me it took 3 hours to find a car to Maribor.―Anonymous

We stood with a sign ‘Graz’ but only roughly 70% of drivers noticed us and gave their gestures. There is a lot of cars driving directly to the highway direction Vienna and Graz. After roughly an hour or so we changed for a thumb only and a kind girl stopped for us.―Bindorra

Pretty quiet reststop, mostly trucks staying the night. Asking around works better than waiting at the end. Good woods to camp behind the fence. Water, toilet, vending machines.―Anonymous

During summer, there is many cars full of people driving towards Slovenia and further south, a couple to Graz and during our time there was only three cars with Italian registration plates. There is not an huge traffic really. After waiting with a sign Italy, waving for long, we were successful asking a man having a rest at the benches.―Bindorra

Hard to find a ride direction Graz. Asked around for 2 hours and got a lot of unfriendly answers... While i was about to give up and look for a spot to sleep, i asked a last car and the guy drove me all the way to leibnitz. Overall, not many people. If you stand close to the gas station, you can see what cars are coming from what direction and so just ask the ones you need―jurichezzbmx
