Lots of traffic and space to pull over. But only maybe 1% rate of reactions at all. Many drivers pretend you don't exist and many are going north rather than south. Police don't care that you're there.

Got a truck in the southern direction eventually!

I waited only 5 minutes by the bus stop for a car that drove me almost 50 minutes down the coastal road. Really fun time, and probably your best bet if you want to go south on the coast :)

Waited here for an hour and didn't find a ride south. I then continued by bus to the omramp to the main coastal road and instantly found a ride from there.

Get prepared to get into the car quickly, and if you go to Zadar or Split you should reject cars going towards Rijeka. Police is there, but didn’t bother us

A Croatian guy also hitchhiking gave up after about an hour.

Got a ride to the toll gates at Dugopolje.

After 43mins decided to walk to the next onramp which has better space for drivers to stop. Ofcourse, a "mad man driver" would have no issue stopping here.

The gas station was closed and the fruit vendors didn't like us even sitting on 'their' parking.

2 guys with backpacks, hitchhiked to Zadar with sign Zadar.
It's a sunny spot (sunscreen recommended)
High traffic going slow and cars have a nice spot to stop
Very very low success rate tho...took us 90 minutes even with high traffic

Got there at 14:15. Maybe earlier morning works better seeing the other review here. Lot’s of traffic but one one stopped. Finally, I got picked up by a local who asked for money. After declining money he still offered to take me anyway. Got down at Sibenik.

We stood at the toll 60min with a Dubrovnik sign
The spot is fine, we just had no luck. Most cars where full with families. In the end a nice guy took us to Makarska

Good spot, lots of cars stop on their way to Split. A guy saw us getting off the car with our sign in hand and went to talk to us ;) that's luck

(direction Split) good spot for cars to stop but Makarska is a horrible place to hitchhike overall especially going south. going to Split seems way easier

(direction south) lots of cars and going slow but they are not going further down Makarska, after more than two hours got a ride by a french couple, not a single croatian stopped. also there is no shade in the spot for summer

A good spot with lots of traffic. There were lines of traffic at the toll booth so I walked along them and asked drivers. Someone took me half way to Dubrovnik. I should have waited for a lift the whole way - I'm sure I would have found one!

Sign "Dubrovnik" got me a quick ride to Opuzen. It is a busy road and a good place to stop for cars!
