Hitchhiked in a group of three on Easter Monday and asked around at the parking lot/picnic area. There were plenty of cars heading to Berlin and we were offered various lifts for just one or two until we found a car with space all of us.
If you are arriving from the South on the B 195, your driver doesn’t even need to enter the A 24. The route shown on Google Maps would mean an unnecessary detour if they just want to drop you without using the gas station. Instead, tell them to drive up to the rest area from the back via the street “Am Heisterbusch”. The street is blocked for cars just at the entry to the rest area so this is a great spot to be dropped off and will save them 15 minutes of unnecessary driving on the Autobahn.

Hitchhiked in a group of three on Easter Monday. This spot can be seen from far away and vehicles can easily enter the parking lot to the supermarket to stop for you. If you want to slow down the traffic flow to give drivers the chance to reflect on whether to take you, you can occasionally press the button at the lights for the pedestrian crossing (best at moments when no cars are approaching ;) )

Got a lift to Hamburg by the first people I asked.

Good spot since cars often have to slow down because of the traffic light. Stood there with a “HH” sign in the late afternoon of Good Friday and caught a lift heading to Lübeck.

There's traffic lights here so you need to get lucky that a car stops and that you are standing in the right place to be able to make eye contact with the driver, they can't stop for long if the light turns green, but they can take a right and pick you up in de carpark.

(for direction Berlin, from the other side: super easy to find a lift, doesn't take more than 30min usually for a ride straight to Berlin)

The on-ramp sign's scratchmarks tell a history of hitchhikers being stranded here on the way to Berlin. Maybe there is a time during the day where you can _easily_ get a lift here. We haven't found it so far (during the evening). Correct this entry if you know otherwise.

Big gas station with restaurants and other facilities. Big traffic. Going to Hamburg or north to Schlezwig- Holstein.

waited for a couple of hours, didn’t get a ride, only grumpy germans here, they ignore you when you go up to them

Waited here to get a ride to Hannover but didn't work. Almost everyone goes to Hamburg so we took a ride to there instead.
Would recommend not to try to Hannover from here

Getting to Hamburg is easy as pie. I was trying to go north at first which proved a bit harder. Not a very busy gas station.

Only people going in the northern direction. Very good spot for going there, but not so good for going to the south (Hannover or Bremen).
Waited 2 hours to get a ride to there, eventually got dropped of in centre of Hamburg.
