ideal spot for people heading to hamilton, wide road with HEAPS of space for people to pull over, fair amount of traffic- there's bound to be other decent spots for getting out of town

decent spot for people heading north out of Narrows- I managed to thumb down a ride to Onehunga within 30 minutes- best time to hitch is when people are heading to work as it seems common for them to commute to Auckland

Decent spot for heading south towards Hamilton/Wellington. Lots of space to pull over. Found a ride to Hamilton after 20-30 minutes - most traffic is going straight under the motorway on the 22 but decent amount of cars going south on the 1.

Pretty decent spot for heading south out of Hamilton, we only got a lift to Cambridge but I'm sure you can get a lift much further out to Taupō or Rotorua. Plenty of space for cars to pull over and the traffic isn't too fast.

starting hitching form bus stop with no success moved to new spot, recommend by a local. Just past the bus stop directly underneath the green sign to raglan.

Long straight road with a wide shoulder cars to stop. Fast traffic speeds and not too many cars. Found a lift to Tokoroa within 15 minutes.

Nice wide shoulder, near a roundabout so the cars are going slow. Hitch from underneath the 100km speed sign. 6.5/10 visibility though, because drivers are just coming out of a turn. Still works great. Hard to reach though, requires some walking.

At firs i tried it more in the center of hamilton. Didn't work for me. If you want ti go to raglan it's better to go a bit away from the center.

Terrible place if you're heading south. Got dropped off here on the way to Wellington from Auckland, while it is possible to get here southbound on SH1, almost everyone is heading north. I was there around 4 hours, was getting ready to give up, change my sign to Auckland and then fly from Auckland but absolutely lucked out with an awesome ride to Taupo area, and her son was heading to Wellington that evening so he ended up taking me, so it all worked out.

Nowhere good to stand though, no room around the roundabout, so you're pretty much only going to be able to try to get either petrol station traffic or restaurant/shop traffic
