One minute wait time, ride straight to opotiki, good pull over spot, slowish traffic. Bus here from tauranga was 3.4nzd.I had wanted to hitch from Tauranga, however the all the Eastbound spots seemed crap due to the big road. Happily the road is a toll road, and a lot of long distance traffic goes through te puke as it is free, which is a smaller, more hitchable road.
Got a bus here from tauranga, costing 3.4nzd with student discount (didn't ask for I'd, paid in cash, bus leaves from bayfair, which had another potential spot, or central taurange).

Just don't, anywhere along this road. Lots of places for cars to park, but they tend not to. Also bad in the school run hours since the cars are stationary at trafficlights―ReubsDoos
