Plenty of traffic, albeit quite fast. Not the best space for a car to pull over but there is a tiny layby just before the road distances sign. Waited 5 minutes for a lift to Taupō. 4/5 only because of traffic speed and pullover space.―luckyluke

Perhaps it was the time of day (one hour or so before sunset), but we struggled to find a ride south on Route 1. It was only after about one hour that a nice local lady took us to Tūrangi. 3/5 because maybe this spot is great in the day time when folks are travelling further. Plenty of space to pull over and relatively slow traffic.―luckyluke
