Lost world highway. Slow middle of knowhere road, but fairly pretty. Basically no cars, and when the one car per half an hour laughs at you and zooms past for no reason it kinda blows. Eventually got picked up and rode direct to Stratford. Don't pick this road if you need to get to taranaki fast. IT IS NOT A SHORTCUT.―Anonymous

Wandering down the road early in morning. Because super early to catch the handful of campers going down the mountain. First car stopped hell yeah!!!!!―Anonymous

Walking up to taranaki. I started thumbing from the junction, but for some reason the tourists really didn't get the spirit of hitchiking and refused to pick me up, even though they all had space and where all going where I was going. This really sucked in the furious summer heat, and I guess given I was in a national park surrounded by what I thought was open minded adventurous people I had heightened hopes. After walking ages a kind tourist eventually stopped and I had a great time. Guess that's the magic of the thumb.

Wander along the road. Loads of space, loads of visibility. After a few rejections I got a ride towards taranaki!!―Anonymous
