Most people drive in the city. One person went directly to Stockholm and took me all the way

One male 40+, one big and one small backpacks, a rainy (drizzle) day. Going to Stockholm.
A very good spot. An exit from lorry stop (some custom place) good visibility and enough space even for a lorry to stop. Not very busy road, a few cars per minut.
I didn't wait at all. I just stopped and I was about to take the sign out from my backpack, whe first lorry leaving the custom car park stopped and took me all the way to Stockholm. The fact that I was wearing a t-shirt with a big Polish emblem helped me loooads. The truck driver was Polish. I'm not sure how long I'd have to wait if I didn't have the t-shirt.

One male 40+, with a sign "Oslo", one big and one small backpacks, sunny and warm day. Going to Oslo.
A bus stop, good visibility and enough space even for a lorry to stop. Not very busy road, a few cars per minut.
I waited only 20-30 minutes. The fact that I was wearing a t-shirt with a big Polish emblem helped me loooads. A Polish guy who passed me already, turned to talk to me, only coz he saw I was Polish. Initially he was supposed to take me to Sodertalje (about 25 kms), but in the end he took me 140 kms and dropped at a petrol station by a highway.
I'm not sure how long I'd have to wait if I didn't have the t-shirt.

This time there was a construction site along the road where the indicated spot is, so we moved ca. 100m towards Sveaplan and stood in between the traffic lights. A lot of traffic, and well visible spot, but people need to decide fast. We were in the middle of morning traffic but had to wait quite long to get lucky.

maybe the best place for getting south. Petrolstation(statoil) and a truckstop. very easy to find a car fast and if you have patience its quite easy to find ride very long for example gothenburg or malmö.

Wait just before the bus stop, as the cars can stop...anyway they aren't fast because of the traffic light. I waited 20 minutes for a ride to Uppsala

The slip road to E4 south going is at the moment, 140806, not accessible since the construction of hospital Karolinska sjukhuset nearby. Go somewhere else if you are heading south, p.e. Kungens Kurva.

I was waiting there and asking for a lift to Link owing direction, but there were people at the local traffic, going to jobs mostly.

First off the Ikea bus is now in front of some.pizza shop. But don't even bother. They tore down the gas station and after in the process of building a new one 500 metera down the road. It will not be done until 2021. I could not find a sensible place to hitch because of the traffic. Please do no go to this spot.

Take the Ikea bus (for free!) from Vasagatan 13 in Stockholm. Cross the Highway and you are there. Easy to go south! Very busy Statiol station. Good luck!

Not a lot of cars coming from the petrol station, though they are driving very slow. However lots of cars coming on the on-ramp, though driving pretty fast.

Around 700m walk from Skärholmen T-bana (red line to Norsborg). We stood all the way at the end of the station, where we could also catch traffic from the on-ramp.

If you're going south or west I suppose this is one of the best places to hitch from. Getting here is very easy (you just get to ikea and then walk 5 minutes) it's easy for cars to stop, there's alot of trucks and cars drive relatively slow (although not slow enough for a sign to be efficient). I waited 40 minutes until I got a ride to Oslo.

The first truck that we asked was going to Helsinborg and picked us. So far, it was the fastest HH experience in Sweden that I had. Great place!
