Awesome spot for hitching. Large gas station. And there is an awesome view of the lake if you have a time to chill out I highly recommend to check it out.

I spent quite a lot of time asking around for a car heading east towards Newcastle, but did not find any. Then I rearranged my destination for Manchester and found a ride pretty fast.

Plenty of space to stop in long layby as cars climb hill, slightly hidden from view by sign but plenty of traffic heading east in Leeds direction

I've stopped here twice while hitchhiking south from Scotland to London. First time got a ride to Birmingham, and the second time to London. Both pretty quickly. Plus the services are comfortable, with free toilets, charging sockets etc. I would definitely stop here again when looking for a longer-distance ride.

Got a lift from a friendly truck driver at 2230 on a Monday night after only waiting 20 minutes. Just asked everyone who was filling up.

We sat outside the building, eating lunch, with a sign.

Bus stop with lots of space to pull in. Was picked up by second car that passed.
Quieter road but plenty of traffic especially in summer.

Great spot to go north, slip road out on to the M6 where cars have go slow and have plenty of time to see you and stop (legally I believe). Also, a bunch of truckers going long distances, into Scotland. Top spot

Great spot, got a lift almost immediately (although that’s luck too). Can’t imagine waiting here for over half an hour as all cars are going north and there’s a steady stream of them. Plenty of service stations that are easy to hitch out of on the way
