Getting out of Arcata shouldn't take you long. Was only about 15 minutes on this corner before an old hippie picked me up... only got to Eureka though. Might want to have a sign.―Anonymous

Not bad actually! I was on my way to the the reggae festival and had a sign that said "REGGAE", and got picked up before I'd even found a hitching spot. People around here seem pretty cool. (with the exception of the meth-heads!)―Anonymous

Arcata's a cool town and all, but you can't hitch north out of it. We tried for nearly 6 hours, and a few people stopped and told us it was a tough hitch, but nobody picked us up. (we had a sign for Crescent City) You're better off on the side of the 5, even though cars are going really fast there. People are nice, but nobody's going anywhere.―Cmcneil
