The car are going slow and there's space to stop. Good for going into the direction to Spain but probably hard to get in to Spain.

Good to go to Collioure, there's space to stop and cars aren't going too fast. The closer to Spain you want to get the hardwr it probably is.

Difficult to reach we had to cross a street with lots of traffic. But got picked up really fast. Good to go too Argelès-sur-Mer

The spot is perfect. Shade, slow speeds and good visibility, just not a lot of traffic. Third car that came by picked my up and dropped me right at the bus stop. They were french.

Pro: plenty of space, gas station and small market. Fairly good traffic both ways.

Con: gotta walk 15-20 mins to get here. Cars getting out of Figueres start to speed up and the gas station is not super busy.
Possibly the traffic lights about 500m before this is a better spot.

mother with daughter took us and said that she is going to Barcelona, loud music, windows down, hurricane at back seats, stoped few kilometres behind border in Ia Jonquera and without any speach she went to shop. so did we, the prices were so low, must have, little chaotic, but good vibe after all

I got a ride on the 30.7.14 from here to Barcelona. Waited a very long time despite the fact that there were long lines with hundreds of cars passing me. Some drivers gave me food and others tried to give me hope. all'n'all, it was a very good day.

I was there in March 2013 and there was a big fence in front of the peage lines, making it impossible to get in. Furthermore there is a police station(van) a couple of meters after the peage, facing it. I put a new point on the map, where I hitch hiked succesfully afterwards.

WE were dropped off from the direction barcelona. so our destination was montpellier. At the gas station there are two sides. the cars who are filling up there gas on the left side are heading to north, the others to south. We waited 1,5 days to get a lift to montpellier. I thought it will be better than before the border. But hey! Why 1,5 days? Weve met a lot of nice people but all the cars were full or the people think we are crazy damn alcohilcs. i dont know....

I was dropped there direction Barcelona, that was a very bad idea, nobody there. I finally walked to the D900 which is just 10mins walk, i then got a lift in 10mins.

Seemed to be a good idea but got stuck here for 3+ hours... Maybe it was just the wrong day to try (2nd Sept) but I see a couple of problems with this place if you are going north.

- even though it is a big service area, Spaniards coming from Spain would have already stopped at La Jonquera that vastly reduces your chances
- the truck parking lot is a 5 minute walk from the station itself which makes it impossible to cruise around both trucks and cars asking for a ride
- the petrol station has two exits, so if you are a cardboard guy, you have to back off beyond the roundabout where the two roads merge. Again, drivers are already prepared mentally to drive away by then so you'll need quite some luck to stop them
- you may try the very highway entrance close to the truck parking but there is no shadow and cars are already going at a decent speed

Long story short, get dropped off at La Jonquera instead!

This was our best spot (better than the edge of Perpignan) to get a lift all the way to Barcelona.

All the cars are going that way so it's much more likely. As other users recommend, try to get a lift all the way to your destination in Spain, as hitching Spain is hard, even at Auto-stops! We thought we had a lift with a trucker to Barca, but he actually took us 40 miles out of the centre to a sleep-over truck stop, which for a trucker probably is Barcelona!

We had no trouble with the Police hut here (it was empty), but perhaps ask your ride here to take you to the stop off point AFTER the Peage when coming here just in case...
