From google maps it seemed atleats half of the coty should go trough this road to go on the highway west. I had a sign A1 and first the guy just wanted to take me to the highway but I declined and then a bit later one guy stopped and took me all the way to alba iulia and went a bit out of the way to get me to the better spot to Cluj because i was going there. He was very generous guy but he told me a lot about religion but it was fine. He was really nice guy.

We waited here for 3 hours but we were not trying to go somehwere really. We were 4 and basically we were just waiting for a train because it was pretty late evning. Also maybe it woudl be nicer to stand at the end of the town not in the middle of it. But there is a looooot of space to stop. But eventually somebody stopped and took was going to sibiu so we just agreed and went there because we didnt have any plan

Good Spot, only one road leading south through the Mountains, we (M22 and M20) had a sign for bulgaria and got a Ride after 30min to Ramnicu, probably better to put „Bukarest“ on the sign, enough Space for cars to stop

Wonderful Spot, especially for going to Brasov, two people stopped when we (M22 and M20) had our thumbs out within 10minutes around 1pm on a friday. With our sign „bulgaria“ we got a Ride for a few Kilometers south :)

Found a guy going in the direction of Bucharest within a few minutes, the traffic is not bad, a decent truck park, and volume of people.

I was going around asking for Bucharest or Sibiu, found a truck leaving later, asked around a bit more, but it didn't work, so I took the truck.

Good spot for Sebes or Alba Lulia. I had a sign Alba Lulia but the driver brought me to Sibiu so that was even better :)

Wait by the second petrol station, the drivers can park better. Kind people here.

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Sibiu to a very small place on the way to Râmnicu Vâlcea called Lazaret.
The place is really good. Loads of space to stop. No shade. Good visibility. Not very busy traffic. Most cars were going either towards Brasov or Sibiu. Cars go slowly due to a roundabout.
After (lucky) 13 minutes I got a lift to Lazarte.

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Sibiu to a very small place on the way to Râmnicu Vâlcea called Lazaret (successful).
The place is really good. Loads and loads of space to stop (some sort of massive entrace to shops plus parking space). Cars go slowly coz it's after a roundabout. Good visibility. The traffic is much smaller than in the roundabout closer to the city. Which means many cars passing trough the other place stay in the city. So, I think this place here is better. There are actually two lanes. But the traffic was small that even the cars from the farther lane could pull over. No shade.
After 10 minuts a French couple stopped and gave me a lift half way, to a roundabout just before Talmaciu (they were going to Brasov), where quickly I got a lift to my destination.

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a cloudy day, drizzling. On my way from here to Sibiu.
I finished hiking 3,5 kms south of this place. Initially I thought it'd be fairly easy to HH here. But the road which looked easy on the map turned out to be quite busy, main road, but physically narrow. I walked 3,5 kilometres when cars passed me by inches (no sidewalk, no nothing), splashing me with water (a huge pour down just finished), to find a first place where a car could pull over.
The place is on the inside side of a curve, which means less visibility. But has enough space to stop. Bad thing was that cars were driving fast here. And, for some strange reason , coming in waves. So drivers had a split second to make the decision, with other cars just behind.
Luckly for me after 25 minutes two friendly guys stopped and took me to Sibiu.
Less than 1 kilometre up north, just after the railway bridge is a place which looks way better.

Locals were also hitching here. Relatively quick someone suddenly stopped (probably because he realised I was a foreigner). He was driving to Cluj, I got out before. Not a bad spot for going west. Lots of place to stop, and closer to the city than if you start near the highway. Male/thumb

Went here because the roundabout was being used by local hitchhikers. Took quite a while for some reason but a polish guy on a roadtrip through Romania picked me up for Brașov/Brassó

Big runoff for cars to pull over, it’s the best way to get to the highway from Deva so it works even if going east. I got a ride to Sibiu/Nagyszeben

Tiu viro iris al Bukareŝto, sed ĉar li estis el la regiono de Brezoi kaj tre ŝatis mian viziton al la regiono, li decidis konduki min ĝis Ciungetu.
